I went to the last Slayer show ever at the Forum in Inglewood & Phil did a full Pantera set with his band the Illegals as the first opener of the night. It was good & heavy but nothing like the real Pantera obviously. They should call it what he did on that tour- Vulgar Display of Pantera.

If nothing else look at it this way all they are doing is touring Dimebash.
and calling themselves "Pantera".

Its being handled wrong in a lot of ways. Id probably go if they weren't acting like they were reforming a band, a band forever missing its soul.

They should change the name from Pantera to Pantera 2, Pantera Too, A Vulgar Display of Pantera, or Reinventing Pantera. I do not care what they call it officially. I just call it fun to go see. Some folks are just so hung up in the name they are missing the point.

Without Dime and Vince there is no point. People seem to be missing that.

Again you are totally missing the point. This is Phil, Rex, and a couple of close friends of the band with the blessing of the estates of the Abbott Bro’s taking Dimebash on the road. That’s all this is. It’s to honor both brothers memories and to give people a chance to see these songs live that has not seen them before. Pantera is not going to reform with these 4 guys making new music. You might see them write one or 2 new songs to preform live that is in Dims and Vince memory. Other than that I we are going to get to honor 2 legendary musicians.

Thats because no one wants to hear new shite, or else Phil would stick to playing his own songs with the illegals.

Oh I'm sure it'll be a great payday. Which is the real point.

Of coarse money factors in here. Pantera is still huge to this day though. A lot of young kids want to hear these songs live. Not everyone can make it across country to Dimebash every year. We will never get Pantera back as it exited back in folks our age brackets day. I didn’t even get to see them live then. By the time I was making enough money to buy my own ticket with my own money Pantera was pretty much done. This is the closest I will get to the real thing and I’m ok with that.

therein lies my problem with it.

I'm not an occasional fan of metal, its been my whole life. Dime was a large reason on why I picked up a guitar to begin with. So, all of this doesn't really feel about "tribute" or honoring people who are gone.

..and I love Phil and appreciate everything he has done..

But it comes off as, Vince died and now there is an opportunity to play the same songs he is already doing live..with more well known musicians..traveling around using the band's name. People can say its just a name, but it isn't. Pantera meant something and that was all gone forever on December 8 2004.

I totally understand your feelings on that and share them. I don’t see Phil doing this like you just described though. If it was all about money then he wouldn’t have waited so long after Vince died. I think Phil truly has regrets about how Pantera ended. I think this has a lot to do with cutting some demons lose when it comes to all that. Plus he is getting older now and it’s only natural for people to reflect on the glory days and miss them. This may be him trying to recapture some of those days. This is maybe a second bite at the apple to recapture some of those days. Why he is doing it doesn’t matter to me. I’m just gonna enjoy it like I’m 16 or 17 again.

but they are not...I heard both Zakk and Charlie on Eddie Trunk and both went out of their way to say it was not a Pantera reunion. I saw Phil last Aug at the Fillmore with Down and he still kicks arse.
