Berry Oakley's riff in "Whipping Post" is pretty cool, too.

another one bites the dust is the most recognizable bass line I would say in music history

More so than John Entwistle's solo in "My Generation?"

Maybe not Ace of Spades, but the Schism bass line is probably the most recognizable in the last 30 years, and I'm not Tool fan. It's definitely more recognizable than The Chain.

Maybe among bass players or well rounded music enthusiasts

But there is a good chance the average casual music fan couldn't name or pick out a single Tool song

take 100 random people off the street and maybe what? 5? could identify schism.

probably closer to 30-40 would be able to id the chain bass line or at least that it was fleetwood mac.

I would actually agree with this. beastie boys span across so many demos and that bass line seems to have been everywhere in movies, tv, and commercials for the last 20 something years.

That's fair. All that said, Schism has a far more recognizable bass line than The Chain. When the bass line is discernible in The Chain, it is basically the root played on the downbeat for almost 2 whole measures.
