of the grunge era...who was the best on each instrument and vocalist, too?

Lead singer - Buzz Osborne (The Melvins)
Guitar - Jerry Cantrell (Alice in Chains)
Bass - Jeff Ament (Pearl Jam)
Rhythm Guitar - Kim Thayil (Soundgarden) (even though he's a natural lead)
Drums - Matt Cameron (Pearl Jam)

Flea is the. Best bassist of the grunge era. I know rhcp was not grunge but he was in that time period.

Matt Cameron (Soundgarden/Pearl Jam) is the best drummer of the grunge bands. I'll take Stone Gossard on rhythm guitar, Cantrell on lead, Kevin Martin (Candlebox) lead vocals, and Mike Inez (AIC) on bass.

McCready on guitar and Cameron on drums are the most obvious. Those two are some of the best ever at their respective instruments.
