re: Oasis Reunion

Liam was the belligerent, childlike, substance abuse rock star. He's also passionate and, by many accounts, quite likable and kind especially when sober (I think even Noel says so). But in the history of Oasis Liam was responsible for 90% of the rock star antic stuff (fights, legal troubles, etc.). He took some really low blows at Noel over the years (his wife, kid).
Noel put up with it (or didn't) for a long time, and had the more stable personal life. People who are Liam fans will claim Noel is the a-hole because he's not as passionate and eventually got to the point where it looked like Liam was begging to bury the hatchet and Noel would come out and give some ice cold response.
I don't think there is any honest way to make Noel the villain, but people do try. I think it's common enough as a trope - Liam is the lovable loser and Noel is the older brother who tries to keep things together but sometimes comes off like a dick as a result.

Exactly.
Liam would literally try to fight people in the audience while Noel would be the peacemaker.
Liam was the consummate front man while Noel wrote the music.
Noel was “the Chief” and entire band knew it (band only had 3-4 songs prior to Noel joining).
Noel eventually got fed up with Liam’s antics.
Liam wanted to reconcile and Noel said nfw.
Prior to Liam at Knebworth 2022, people would have said that they needed each other.
But, sentiment has shifted over the past couple of years with most thinking Noel needs Liam more than the other way around.

Seeing them in Chicago @ Soldier Field on 8/28. I was fortunate enough to see them three times from 95-96 in Detroit, including a show @ St. Andrew's Hall that is available on YouTube.

Gotta love getting the Production Released Ticket lottery email at 5:15 for Manchester this weekend. Yea, can’t swing that sadly.

Saw the set lits for the first two shows were identical. Hope they mix it up during the tour and throw in some deep cuts.

Agree to disagree.
Liam packed Knebworth with 165k fans in 2022 singing both Oasis and solo tracks.
Can’t say that Noel’s HFB have had the same success.

I think you could easily make the case HFB has been pretty close. I think it's fine to give the edge to Liam, especially when you account for expectations (everyone assumed Noel would be fine on his own, Liam had a ton of doubters).
Noel/HFB have been very consistent and arguably had broader worldwide success in album sales. Of course, live shows make money and Liam wins there, but a lot of that is generating royalty money for Noel, too.
It's honestly like everything else with them, Liam has the higher ups and lower lows and Noel is consistently a strong performer, but lacks the dynamism.

Anybody going to the NYC (East Rutherford) shows?
My wife surprisingly started asking questions about them last night so might be game on

Unfortunately, they are pretty well known for not changing up set lists throughout tours in the past.

Thats actually not a very common sentiment, but I couldnt agree with you more. What was somewhat striking at the Cardiff shows (I was there on Night 2) was how firmly in control Liam looked, and how out of place Noel looked. Liam was 100% in peak form and Noel struggled on some parts of his vocals (although his lead guitar skills were on point after so many years off.) Besides, as good as Noel's songwriting still is, sales of his last album were pretty bad. Ive followed Liams career pretty closely since 2016, and he has only gotten more popular, especially with the younger folks. Id definitely say that Noel needs Liam more now than Liam needs Noel. But to Liams credit, he has consistently maintained that he would drop everything to get back together with Noel again.

Interesting observation. I’ve seen others write about it as well. Do you think Noel realizing that Liam IS the reason for the bands success after all (a little humble pie so to speak)?
Noel has always been the enigma to me. With Liam, what you see is what you get. With Noel, he’s obviously the more thoughtful one. Have always wondered if his arrogant schtick is just for show.
