Not sure why but its a Bob Dylan day for me. Top 3 albums? Why?

Blood on the Tracks is Dylan's best album.
Others may tell you that Blonde on Blonde, Highway 61 Revisited, or even Desire is his best album, but they're wrong, and when pressed (up against the wall, and in the presence of a .44, if necessary), they will eventually agree.

Not very Dylanesque. You can't say which is best....depends on your mood. Highway 61 Revisited is great as is Freewheelin. I really like his eponymous album Bob Dylan....lot of blues covers but it was Dylan before anyone knew who he was...The Times They are Achangin is great.....they're all great...but I don't care for much of his stuff past Hurricane.

1. Blood on the Tracks - it's his most personal album and his best work IMO
2. Nashville Skyline - I'm in the minority here, but I loved this new side of Dylan. You cannot beat the opening track with Johnny Cash.
3. Desire - another "personal" album and his follow up to Blood on the Tracks. Isis is my personal favorite song by Dylan. Emmylou Harris was great on this album.
*sorry, but I don't get the love for Blonde on Blonde. It's the weakest of the "big three" for me....Bringing it all Back Home and Hwy 61 are waaayyyy better albums.
*gotta mention Infidels....that was a VERY solid album. When I was deciding on No 3 on this list...it was between Infidels and Desire....but went with Desire.

1. Nashville Skyline - perfect album, so simple, his voice sounds rich after he quit smoking... has a very timeless quality, and continues to get better. I love the little throwaway Country Pie at the end. This album was Dylan shirking off his "Voice of a Generation" label and just freestyling on the most universal emotion: love.
2. Blood on the Tracks - hard not to have this album on any list. Incredible writing. Stacked w/ big, important hits.
3. Freewheelin' Bob Dylan - I love this album... very rough around the edges, so much striving. Plus it contains his best song "Don't Think Twice, It's Alright"

Blood On the Tracks. If there is such thing as a perfect album, this is it. It has my favorite Dylan song (Shelter from the Storm) and the epic Lily, Rosemary, and the Jack of Hearts. He should get divorced more often.
Bringing It All Back Home. If I could explain Dylan in one song, I'd use It's Alright Ma I'm Only Bleeding. But this album rockets back and forth between fun and furious.
Freewheelin Bob Dylan. The greatest folk rock album recorded. And it's not even his best album. He had already mastered the bitter f-you song (Don't Think Twice It's Alright) and his potent streak of surrealism (Talkin WWII Blues). This was really his first album of original material, which is just amazing.

I'll go the underrated route..
1. Planet Waves- Back with The Band, great tunes..
2. Infidels- Sly & Robbie, Mark Knopfler, I and I
3. John Wesley Harding- Not one chorus on the whole record, but then, who needs choruses?

1) Blonde on Blonde because I love the Band
2) Nashville Skyline because I love how Bob does country music
3) Desire because for some inexplicable reason I like it better than Blood on the Tracks (if "Lily, Rosemary and the Jack of Hearts" was removed, I'd probably put Blood in the #3 spot)
