The Hardest Cut

New album “Lucifer On the Sofa” due in February. I really like this new track. It harkens back to early Spoon in that it’s traditional rock instrumentation without the electronic flourishes that they’ve delved into on their most recent albums.

I highly enjoyed their last two albums. I thought both were very solid. I'm always kinda surprised that this band isn't bigger than it is.

Just curious, have you listened to their earlier stuff? A Series of Sneaks and Girls Can Tell are couple of my favorite albums ever.

That’s probably my favorite Spoon album. I don’t know if there is any Spoon album I would call a masterpiece, but they are experts at consistently cranking out really good albums. Transference is about the only one I was fairly lukewarm on (never listened to Telephono).

I like their earlier stuff too. I wouldn't call myself a super fan or anything, but they are one of those bands that I almost always like what they put out.

Not bad.

I only really listened to Kill the Moonlight regularly. Gimme Fiction wasn't bad either.

I enjoy both of those, but the two I mentioned previously are my favorites.

Preordered the new colored vinyl from Matador yesterday. Really liked the track in the OP, but this description from the Matador site made me pull the trigger.

quote:

Spoon’s tenth album, Lucifer on the Sofa, is the band’s purest rock ’n roll record to date. Texas-made, it is the first set of songs that the quintet has put to tape in its hometown of Austin in more than a decade. Written and recorded over the last two years –both in and out of lockdown –these songs mark a shift toward something louder, wilder, and more full-color.

I agree, their catalog is sprinkled with catchy AF ready made mainstream hits but nothing ever caught fire.

If "Hot Thoughts" a few years ago didn't blow up, I don't think anything ever will for them. Which I'm fine with btw lol.
