I really want to believe this. Not unlike them to mislead. Also not unlike the internet to be full of crap. Cautiously optimistic.

Even if the info is legit, if it leaked early, Maynard will file a lawsuit and postpone the release indefinitely.

I'm trying to contain my excitement. I wouldn't be the least bit shocked if that was all bullshite, but if it's true...

The source further noted: "Although I really don't think this is a troll job from my source, there is one thing that makes me suspicious. 'Decem,' if my research is right, means 'ten.' Could that refer to the 10 years between albums? If so, that seems awful meta for Tool."
Meta for Tool? Are we talking about the same band who has a song with the chorus that has:
quote:
All you know about me is what I've sold you, dumb frick
I sold out long before you ever heard my name
I sold my soul to make a record, dipshit, and you bought one
And ends with:
quote:
All you read and wear or see and hear on TV Is a product Begging for your fatass dirty dollar
So ... Shut up and Buy my new record
Send more money
frick you, buddy
Really? This might be spot on.

So am I right in reading that some reddit person reported this info? Why is anyone taking this seriously?

Because after they trolled people so very hard for Lateralus, folks want to think, "Well, they wouldn't do that again, would they?"
And Maynard gets them again. I think Tool may be done as a recording act, to be honest. Not 100% - if they've been working all this time on new stuff (which they certainly have been doing some of that), they've got another album (or 2 - or a double album) - but if they were serious about new material, they would be recording it and releasing. They've always been a non-traditional band. Except for JC, they're all in their 50s - Carey is 55.
I think Tool has 24 to 36 months left - at most. They may hold a final album for somewhat of a farewell tour (and knowing them, they'll just play their favorite small places, on a sporadic schedule and maybe 2 or 3 big shows in 7 months).
Tell me where I'm off-base.

Good question. According to this interview with Buzz Osborne from just a few weeks ago they haven't started recording yet. LINK
quote:
Bands like Tool obviously spend about six months on their albums, and they’ve spent about ten years putting together the new one. And they haven’t even started recording yet, but Adam [Jones, Tool guitarist] told me the shortest song they’ve been working on is twelve minutes long.
This guy posts a lot of tour and festival rumors on facebook and twitter and usually has a lot of good information
I don't know if Buzz Osborne or even Maynard's twitter are credible sources though.

fun fact:
my TD username is from when they trolled the Laterlus release with a fake title and track names.
musick was a "song" on that album
quote:
Album name: "Systema Encéphale"
Track names: "Malfeasance, U.V.R., Numbereft, Encephatalis, Musick, Coeliacus, Pain Canal, Lactation, Smyrma, Riverchrist
they put out a few more fakes that year until the album dropped.

well I hope it comes out soon, as I have great seats for the denver show.

The fricking track lengths are too long. I'm okay with a few long tracks but not everyone being 13 fricking minutes. Maynard needs to get over himself and put out a new tool album before I die. May be the most frustrating band of all time

I'm pretty sure Adam or someone else in the band already said that no songs are under 12 minutes. They could just be trolling us of course.

They still really enjoy making and playing music, and they seem to be doing the exact opposite of what many aging rock bands do, who eventually get completely burned out.
At the nola show, all the band members interacted with the crowd and seemed to be in a genuinely good mood. Several band members came out early just to jam with Primus. They played songs from throughout their catalog that people really wanted to hear. They've done such a good job of keeping fans in anticipation that they can sell out an arena in any US city whether it's been a decade or six months since they toured.
Basically, "breaking up" is meaningless when talking about a band like tool. They don't feel that pressure to produce or face becoming irrelevant that most bands fall victim to. They'll make an album when they feel like it, tour when they feel like it, and we will buy that shite as soon as it hits the shelf.
