I've messed around with the guitar since I was a kid, but never really focused and got any good. Trying to get my son interested and ended up getting the bug again myself for the first time in a while. In college (last time I played regularly), I was too poor to get any good gear. Now that I have I have the funds, I'm trying to get decent tone. But I really don't have much background since I have basically pulled out an acoustic once or twice a year for the last 15 years.

Currently have a Blues Jr. Tweed, Overdrive Pedal (BOSS), Compressor/Sustain Pedal (BOSS), and a cheap EQ pedal (Behringer/BOSS clone). I have a MOSKY isolated power supply for the pedals from Amazon. Not sure if it's truly isolated, but prior to putting the EQ pedal in there, I didn't notice anything major in terms of noise. Now that the EQ pedal is in the chain, it's hissing more than I desire anytime the EQ is moved from baseline. I've read this is typical with EQ pedals and can be solved with higher dollar units, but I just play at home, and have already dropped more than I'm willing to tell my wife about in the last few weeks . Is there a way to tame this baseline noise? I like the EQ pedal to shape the Blues Junior sound that can be a little too treble happy for playing alone. Looked at noise gates, which is another purchase can still be cheaper solution than a high quality EQ. Just not sure if that's a good solution.

what frequencies are you boosting with the EQ pedal that you can't get from the amp?
overdirve + compression pedal + EQ = noise.

I'll echoplex Oatmeal, the recipe you described is an absolute hiss and noise utopia.

Get rid of the EQ, you simply don't need it.

Only engage the compressor when you are playing clean. And make sure it is in FRONT of the OD pedal, not behind it.

Those two remedies alone will clean your sound up significantly.

What guitar are you playing? You sure it’s not 50 cycle hum from single coils?

MOSKY isolated power supply

you bought the cheapest power supply made in china you could find and youre asking about noise.

just an observation.

edit: I don't think those boxes are truly isolated. It's basically a daisy chain with a metal box around it. I would get myself a proper isolated power supply. just my 2 cents.

tbh you're going to have to do some experimenting, plugging straight into the amp, then adding pedals until you find the hum. when you do, that pedal will likely be your culprit. also not all power supplies are the same. the cheap chinese shite will make you want to pull your hair out.

Some locations have dirty power too.
At my friend's house, it's terrible.

EQ pedals are evil and IMO not needed. Also the order of pedals in the chain is important. Tons of videos on You tube in how to set up your board. Last but certainly not least a quality power supply is key. It’s a boring purchase but worth every penny.

To clarify a few things.

Guitar is a PRS SE custom 24. Noise is present with split coils and humbuckers

Power supply vs. battery on individual pedals= not a noticeable difference in noise.

All pedals (Compressor->OD->Loop) prior to adding EQ pedal on power supply= not a noticeable difference in noise

This EQ pedal is just as noisy when it's by itself. It's noisy when I try it anywhere in the chain. It's a cheap Behringer 7 band EQ....a clone of a Boss GE-7. Went to YouTube before posting here and several videos on how this EQ and many others have this hiss. Its not the interaction with other pedals. It's not daisy chain noise. It's just a noisy pedal. Obviously removing it solves that, but I got it for a reason and wondered if there's a solution that's inexpensive.

The Blues Jr. is far from the best amp out there. I find the tone knobs don't do much and that seems to be a common complaint, hence the pedal. Not looking to get perfect. This is a cheap rig for someone back playing guitar for 1.5 months, haha.

Am I reading you are running the compressor and OD in the effects loop? If so, you are running a compressor behind the amp's preamp. That's a no-no, the comp is amplifying preamp white noise. Effects loops ALWAYS sit between an amp's preamp (tone shaping) and power (amplification) circuits.

Put the compressor AND the OD between the guitar and the amp's regular input.

Not in the "effects loop". Fairly certain this amp isn't set up with jacks between pre-amp and power amp for that. I forgot to mention in the initial post that I also had a loop pedal in the chain.

Guitar-> Compressor -> Overdrive -> Loop Pedal-> Amp Input. Latest spot for EQ pedal when used has been just before the amp. But have tried it pretty much everywhere.

The noise is not obnoxious and is manageable. But I'm OCD and am an engineer (mechanical not electrical), so my brain tries to find the solution even though I'm out of my element, haha.
