im suprised because for literally 2 years he told people that this record wasn't going to be a country record. he said it would be a rock and roll record.

It's not a particularly good rock album, though. There's some interesting bones to it, but it sounds like a country artist trying to make a hard rock album. It's certainly better than Chris Gaines, though.

By your logic, couldn’t you just listen to his 3 previous albums and stop there?

I am just explaining why I didn't really care much for the new album. Yeah the last 3 are good and I was hoping the new one would be similar to them bc that sound is what made me enjoy listening to SS. I do not follow SS interviews or what he said this album was supposed to be like, so my expectation was that it was going to be like the last 3. No big deal at all, just have no desire to listen to Sound and Fury again. I am glad some people like it though, I hope he continues to make more music bc I will definitely listen.

Finally getting around to listen to this one since I see there's a 12 page thread. I like it so far and better than sailor's guide to earth, which almost made me not like him anymore.

I had previously said I'm over SS, but I'm back and want to see this album performed live while I'm on mushrooms.

I do that(or something similar) with many, many artists.

Im a child because I called you out for making several posts shitting on/validating others negative opinions of the album? Why else would you be so adamant about making your opinion heard if your little internet ego wasn’t involved?

I think the best thing to do is listen to it with no assumptions and to view it as a stand alone album. in that respect it's very very good. on it's own. it's a giant frick you record to me.

Finally got around to listening. It's a very good listen and a nice departure by him.

Seems like the only people butthurt about it are the ones who prefer shitty country music like Chris Stapleton and wanted Sturgill to sound like that.

This is a good record. I have listened a few times now, and I like it more and more with each listen.

I get people not liking it, because they want the country vibe. This is more southern rock with some clever synths thrown in. I don't see this as much a departure as it is a transition to something ambitious. Southern Rock is still country influenced, and you can hear it in this.

Everyone in here that doesn't like this album is full of hippo shite.

Sturgill did it again. Go find a musical artist that can weave through genres with ease the way Sturgill does.

So many downvoting haters in this thread. This is my album of the year. Feel like ZZ Top and the Black Keys rolled into one. Great album from start to finish. Sturg dgaf about anyone’s expectations.
