Same here. Just started listening to his new album so I have nothing to say on it yet. I just don't think anything he will ever do again will live up to "Sinners Like Me". Every song on that album is special to me. Every single one.
He always puts on one helluva show!

Hey man, dude asked for people's opinion of Eric Church. I just gave mine opinion. I had no doubt that others would disagree. Musically inept others. But others nonetheless.

The more I listen to the album the more I apprieciate what EC was trying to do. Definatly not the normal country album. Love all the different layers of instruments on most of the songs. Like the darker edge to several of the songs. Being 62 and having lived a full life I can relate to Dark Side and A man who was gonna die young.

Nice, didn't know that. I like the album tho, been listening to it all day. It's good stuff, but not the type that makes you want to go out and party.

Eric Church is reported to have written a whopping 121 songs for the album before he hit the studio. And judging by the result, I believe him, and wouldn’t be surprised if he’s selling that number short. Apparently we’re supposed to be impressed that 121 songs were vetted for this album, but it speaks to songwriting by formula as opposed to inspiration, and is one of the reasons for the flat, uninspired, and unoriginal result when looking past the histrionics this album contains.
The Outsiders is an exercise of finding the biggest wall available and throwing a disparate hodgepodge of disconnected ideas and undisciplined influences against it to see what sticks. As much as we were sold from the very beginning of this album release that everything would resolve and make sense once we heard the entire project in context, the individual songs released before this album make even less sense now, and the songs as a whole resolve to a sum lesser than their individual parts.
But you won’t hear this from the vast majority of critics. They can’t shut the hell up about how brilliant this album is simply because it isn’t country rap, and it’s not “bro-country”

i could pull up just as many articles praising the album from hardcore country sites. hell 1 site i read was like the album is crap then rated at least 5 songs an 8/10
people love to hate on successful people. Eric church is a good musician, if you dont like his music it doesn't mean it sucks. it means its not for you.

my thoughts exactly. and its good to hear this from an old guy because sometimes it seems like all the older generations hate on the "new guys" i guess its just a vocal minority

Thanks sgallo3. As a side note I am co-owner of the Texas Club and have heard my share of country artists. I really like Eric Church.

I enjoyed his stuff more when he wasn't trying to market himself as a modern day outlaw and just made good music. There are a couple good tracks on here, but some real duds too. Though I'm glad he spared me from trucks and fireball whiskey, so he gets bonus points for that.
