i have tried to like the Band, but its just not clicking for some reason. I want to enjoy thier song and perhaps havent been exposed to their greatest.
what i ask is any true fans of the band link a few good tunes that are off the radar. I got their greastest hit. Drove ole dixie down is 1 of my favorites, of cousre the weight and cripple creek. But there has to be more based on the love this board gets. I have seen Last Waltz and it was impressive. but i want more.
currently i have been into a herion addictted Clapton. Allman brothers with Duane. Neil young is in my current rotation along with svr, stones, black crowes. so that is my frame of reference.
can anyone link some robbie rob going off or levon doing his thing. i am admittidly ignorant on thier catalog and want to change that.
The Band gets high acclaim from poster i respect on this board, but i havent been able to turn the corner.

See if you can find their first live album: "Rock of Ages." They used a horn section (arranged by New Orleans' own Allen Toussaint) for the gig and it adds another layer to their songs.

Music from the Big Pink is probably their masterpiece album. Their sound is different from most of the music being made at the time. They used instruments like tubas and pipe organs that created an old time feel. Some of their songs sound like a mix of 1860s folk music and rock and roll.

I liked them better with Bob Dylan.

Well, uh, I liked them better with Ronnie Hawkins!

"It Makes No Difference" is the saddest, most painful song ever recorded.

I will suggest watching the Last Waltz on DVD..you'll develop an appreciation for them afterward.

You just need to let the music soak in. It may a certain time that it hits you but I believe it will.
I like their version of I Shall Be Released but I like this guy's version better. Just MO

Dandy, I watched it last night and didn't think it was possible to like The Band more than I already do but that documentary just confirms how amazing that group of guys were. I don't like to give Canada credit very often but Richard Manuel, Garth Hudson, Richard Danko and Robbie Robertson are geniuses! Levon Helm is just understood brilliance. The Band...

Watch the live version of "The Shape I'm In" on youtube. But, as already said, you can't make yourself like a band.

Every music fan should own a copy of The Last Waltz

Could not agree more. Parents should be charged with criminal neglect if they don't share The Last Waltz with their children.
