So, you think things are the same as 40 years ago?

What's your point? Is big country the same? No. Are dark country songs still around? Yes.

As a Matter of fact, I try to write the darkest with a fun spin. That's my nature.
Here is one of my songs that I recorded in the living room, fixxed some things for the next recording, I like it. Fun little song.

Yeah, he had to write a song like that for a female though.
A guy couldn't sing something like that on mainstream country radio these days.
The last thing I remember being anything close to that dark on mainstream country radio, was Yoakam's She Wore Red Dresses and that was the late 80s. I loved that album and that song especially.
You can write anything you want. You can record it, mainstream is going to keep their distance though.
I think it's a shame. It's just entertainment.

The best song I have ever written, absolutely the song I am most proud of, I had to rewrite it, because in the original opening verse the guy was with one woman and woke up calling the name of another.
The publishers and A&R people hated it. Said it made the singer seem like an a-hole.
The original version is by far the best.
The song seems watered down to me now, and I don't get excited about pitching it since then.

Oh, I know the song. Written by Whispering Bill. They used to be able to do things like that in country music. Mainstream country is all politically correct now though.
It's ridiculous, but it is what it is.
