Going for a long weekend and looking for suggestions on the music scene. I've been once before and know about Broadway and Tootsie's and the like. We're staying at a Hyatt property near the Ryman.

We have tix for Grand Ole Opry (never been). Old Crow Medicine Show and Rascal Flatts are playing so that should be interesting. Unfortunately we planned the trip after Tyler Childers' shows at the Ryman were already sold out, as well as all shows at the Blue Bird and Listening Room.

Any recommended venues for good country, rock, blues, etc?

I assume Tootsie’s Orchid Lounge is still a place to see up and coming songwriters.

Paul Cauthen @ Basement East Saturday night. Go to Opry then a pull a double to come watch him. Great live show. Think it’s sold out but you might be able to grab a pair on Stubhub.

Robert's is good. This new Kid Rock 3 story club\bar\restaurant is just crazy at least walk by it on lower broad. Printers Alley has a good blues club called Bourbon Street Blues & Boogie Bar

If you want to hear "The Devil Went Down to Georgia" being performed in every bar you walk into then stay on the strip. If you want real music the go off the strip. The strip has become a tourist trap and you won't hear any real music from up and comers. Just cover songs. I mean, it's a good time if you want to just get drunk and raise hell but if you're going for real music then venture off.

Thanks to all for the tips - we'll get Broadway out of our system in one night (or part of one night) and explore the other 2 nights.

Paul Cauthen is indeed sold out but he's on the bill for Hogs for the Cause (incidentally he plays at Hogs before Old Crow Medicine Show, and they're also in Nashville this weekend).

Sunday night Bluegrass Jam at Station Inn is now on our list.

Checkout what's happening at Exit In that weekend. The Blues and Boogie Bar mentioned earlier is great. Also, close to where you'll be is BB Kings. They'll more than likely have blues and funk.

If you want more singer/songwriter stuff, then those will be scattered all across the city. Just search songwriters nights for the weekend you're here.

Plenty of East Nashville spots for more underground indie stuff.

As for the just getting drunk and hearing some great covers on Broadway, stay away from the newer spots with country stars name on them. These are cookie cutter garbage and many times don't even play country and use djs.

The best spots left on Broadway to honky tonk with real country music are....

2nd Fiddle
Laylas
Roberts Western World
Nashville Crossroads
Legends

These are what's left of the true shootgun, dive style,Nashville honky tonks. To a lesser extent, but still decent are....

The Stage
Whiskey Bent
Tootsies
Bootleggers

Avoid at all costs-
Crazy Town
Tequila Cowboy
Honky Tonk Central

Stay off the strip and go to George Jones' bar on 2nd off the main strip.

His wife-Nancy is always there and she'll actually sit and talk with you while you have a few.

Great lady.

Went there last time I was in Nashvegas. John Conlee, Gary Mule Deer, Ricky Skaggs, Marty Stuart, and Brad Paisley were on as well as others I'm forgetting.

Great time.

Also toured the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum.
