Boxer by the National is our little 3 wk old girls favorite album..she cracks a huge smile Everytime Apartment Story kicks on and is dead asleep before Gospel ends, no matter how colicky she is. I play a ton of records when it's my shift with her and she loves this one.

She also likes War on Drugs: Lost in a Dream, Warren Zevon:Excitable Boy and any Andrew W K lol... All awesome, but so random. This is our first child and I never would have thought a 3 wk old would have a music preference, haha. Maybe the bass helps her colick??

Anyone else have any weird experiences with kids and music taste?

Boxer is soooooo good. As is Lost in a Dream. Don't really have anything relevant to add to the thread other than that. Pretty lucky if your kid ends up having that good of taste.

Dude I hope to God she stays like this...I don't want to be listening to some Miley Cyrus kid-bops bullshite 8 years from now lol.

Have you checked out the grateful dead touch of grey cover War on Drugs did? Was amazing

My new niece — about the same age — loves techno.

My own son would not eat in the high chair unless I sang theme songs from 70s sitcoms.

I start Wish you were Here at bedtime. Breesus Jr falls asleep to Shine on you crazy diamond.

Nap time is usually Bill Withers greatest hits.

In the morning we listen to tool or The Meters to get the blood flowing.

We were lucky in this regard too. Our boy likes the more rocking Drive-by Truckers tracks a lot. Anything upbeat would make him happy. He was with me all the way through my I’m Your Mind Fuzz on repeat stage.

When your girl gets a little older and wants something catered more toward children try Walter Martin’s We’re All Young Together.

It’s highly tolerable "all ages music". Walter Martin was in the Walkmen. This album saved us from hours of nursery rhymes. We even bought a copy for our daycare and they loved it.

I'll check him out, thanks. I did grab a children's album by They Might Be Giants, I used to love em as a kid, and I thought it was funny they did a kids album...it's educational and pretty decent...like you said, beats the hell out of nursery rhymes.

My 2yo lady child had similar experiences, although not for sleep. We were cursed with an infant that rarely slept and screamed constantly unless my wife was holding her. It was brutal.

Then one day Crystal Castles "Crimewave" popped up on my shuffle while driving. She instantly stopped screaming and started dancing in her car seat. It was a treasure.

What's great is she loves music. My wife had the following experience which is equally awesome:

Slayer's "Seasons of the Abyss" popped up on her shuffle when baby was about 1yo. Wife says she saw her in the mirror with her hands in the air bouncing her head. Little lady says excitedly to mamma: "I wock!"

Her favorite bands to date: Portugal the Man (she says WOCK AN WOLLLLL when So American comes on), Pinback, Bjork and Frozen soundtrack (of course). She loooooves any techno stuff (is that term still relevant?) and will immediately start dancing

When my soon to be 14 year old daughter was an infant, if we were in the car and RATM came on the radio, she would start rocking back and forth in her car seat like crazy. Her favorite was Bulls on Parade.

If she was crying hysterically I'd put on "Pride and Joy" and sing along..it never shut her up but she loves that song today.
