R.E.M. came very close to getting through he entire 80s decade without making a single less-than-stellar song IMO. Of course that doesn't take Dead Letter Office into account, which was basically just a clearance sale of throwaway tracks. Really the only official album release song I didn't like from the 80s was "Orange Crush" and even that song is marginally acceptable.

So yeah, my pick would be everything from the Chronic Town EP to Green. R.E.M. were just a mind-blowingly great band back then.

Misses by only a year or so, but Ride's Going Blank Again gets an honorable mention.

Mmmh, to each, his own. I personally think ´Stand´ is an official album release song, which is utter garbage.

Right, everybody is going to see it differently but to me if a song is immediately recognizable, catchy, hooky and sticks in your head it can't qualify as completely worthless. Garbage to me is something that goes in one ear and out the other and makes no impression at all.

But to be fair, I can understand why somebody wouldn't like "Stand". I like it though.

Consecutive albums by Def Leppard:

Pyromania (1983) and Hysteria (1987).

Pyromania -

"Rock! Rock! (Till You Drop)"

"Photograph"

"Stagefright"

"Too Late for Love"

"Die Hard the Hunter"

"Foolin'"

"Rock of Ages"

"Comin' Under Fire"

"Action! Not Words"

"Billy's Got a Gun"

Hysteria had 12 tracks - 10 of which were considered for single release, spawned 7 hit singles including the first 6 tracks plus the title track. Rightfully described as a chart monster.

Both albums sold more than 7 million copies.

Great album. Released in 1990.

For my money Blue Bell Knoll is better and released in the right decade.
