Is there anyone who can remotely challenge Paul McCartney?

From age 20 til the present day of iphones, he's been filmed, photogged and/or otherwise recorded.

And he's clearly loved it. Even shitty rehearsals have found there way into celuloid.

Assuming Maca is first, who would be second?

Paul's had a longer career but I would guess Elvis has way more film from when he was around.

Col Parker kept a very tight hold on filming Elvis. After 1956 he appeared on TV a grand total of three times. Cell phones didn't exist, so no casual audience clips.

Jerry Garcia?

The Dead allowed bootlegging. Wouldn't be shocked if a lot of concerts had at least one video camera.

Jerry is the most recorded musician period. Video? Possibly...and my friends were video tapers starting in the early 80s.

Elvis had all those movies though if we're counting those. Way more than McCartney.

Springsteen has to be on this list. Starting with Born to Run there is doc footage of the band rehearsing and recording. That was his first big album and was released in 1975. Ditto for Darkness.

Remember...almost 1100 of the 1900 or so complete Phish shows were shot on video...each one about 2.5 hours (their vault is deep).

The ease and ubiquitous nature of modern video recording allows for newer acts to have an advantage here.

Lawrence Welk, Porter Wagoner, Roy Clark had weekly TV shows for 20+ years

A comparison of eras in technology:

There is a little over an hour of performance footage of Elvis in his prime 1955-8, including movies, TV appearances on Sullivan and Dorsey Bros, newsreels, etc. (That doesn't count local TV shows like Roy Orbison in Odessa TX and Jimmy Dean in Wash DC, on which EP allegedly appeared but which are believed lost, or the inexplicably unreleased theatrical short The Pied Piper of Cleveland, which supposedly exists but languishes on a shelf in the Universal vault.)

1987. A new garage band called Uncle Tupelo videotapes its 2nd ever public performance in its entirety.

it's Elvis. Ricky Nelson and Everly Brothers come in close behind.

It's Mick Jagger.

Don't know who mentioned this recently, it may have been Martin Scorsese, but it was confirmed that it was Mick.

Elvis made 31 movies. That's somewhere around 40 hours of movie footage.

What were the criteria? Was it just motion picture film? Did it include videotape? Cellphones?

Jagger makes sense. He’s been a worldwide star forever and he was also married to some famously beautiful women plus paparazzi.
