Jam bands are simplified compared to indie. Most people agree that the Grateful Dead is #1, WSPSUX, etc..
But then people put Phish in Tier 1, ABB on Tier 2, and it just crumbles from there on

exactly, only the music board triumvirate (danman, heady, burt) can decide on jam band tiering

we would need help from seaward and the other pitchfork chronies on the indie list

i bumped the jam band tier thread so we can keep all the ghey jam band discussion and pissing matches there so discussion of real music can take place in other threads without the wsp trolls chiming in.

If you've never had a lot on lock then you should go ahead and resign from the triumvirate

Thoughts on my tier ranking? I think we mostly see eye-to-eye on MM.

I pretty much agree, but I think Tier 1 should just be Lonesome Crowded West and MAYBE Long Drive

Building Nothing and Moon and Ant. are pretty damn good but have weaker songs on them.

Lonesome Crowded West is just constant awesomeness (other than shite Luck...obviously) and Long Drive is a little less consistent, but it's highlights are some of my favorite MM (Breakthrough, Talking shite..., Make Everyone Happy, Tundra/Desert)

You know now that I'm reading through the songs, I might like Moon and Antartica better than Long Drive. There is definately a lot of filler stuff I don't care for on Long Drive.

shite man, this is tough. I guess I agree those 4 albums are definitely the top flight MM stuff, with Good News close behind

Pretty much the way I feel about it. I go back and forth with the 4 of them as my favorite. But if I had to pick one, it'd probably be Lonesome Crowded West as well.

And I think we can all agree that We Were Dead Before the Ship Even Sank is a steaming pile of horse manure.

Yea...

I remember when it came out I tried so hard to convince myself it was like amazing. It wasn't. It's bad.

I almost want to put Good News in Tier 1. It barely missed the cut.
