Here is another gem, look at these deep, soulful lyrics of "Watching You" by Rodney Atkins

Driving through town, just my boy and me
With a Happy Meal in his booster seat
Knowing that he couldn't have the toy 'til his nuggets were gone

A green traffic light turned straight to red
I hit my brakes and mumbled under my breath
His fries went a-flying and his orange drink covered his lap

Well, then my four-year-old said a four letter word
That started with "s" and I was concerned
So I said, "Son, now where'd you learn to talk like that?"

[Chorus:]
He said, "I've been watching you, dad. Ain't that cool?
I'm your buckaroo, I wanna be like you.
And eat all my food and grow as tall as you are.
We got cowboy boots and camo pants.
Yeah, we're just alike. Hey, ain't we, dad?
I wanna do everything you do.
So I've been watching you."

We got back home and I went to the barn
I bowed my head and I prayed real hard
Said, "Lord, please help me help my stupid self."

Then this side of bedtime later that night
Turning on my son's Scooby Doo nightlight
He crawled out of bed and he got down on his knees

He closed his little eyes, folded his little hands
And spoke to God like he was talking to a friend
And I said, "Son, now where'd you learn to pray like that?"

[Chorus:]
He said, "I've been watching you, dad. Ain't that cool?
I'm your buckaroo, I wanna be like you.
And eat all my food and grow as tall as you are.
We like fixing things and holding mama's hand.
Yeah we're just alike. Hey, ain't we, dad?
I wanna do everything you do.
So I've been watching you."

[Bridge:]
With tears in my eyes I wrapped him in a hug
Said, "My little bear is growing up."
He said, "But when I'm big I'll still know what to do."

[Chorus:]
'Cause I've been watching you, dad. Ain't that cool?
I'm your buckaroo, I wanna be like you.
And eat all my food and grow as tall as you are.
By then I'll be strong as Superman.
We'll be just alike. Hey, won't we, dad?
When I can do everything you do,
'Cause I've been watching you."

he's bad at that. he'll tell you that rock music as a whole went "underground" in 2005

Well, as far as completely vanishing from pop charts and top 40 radio, rock pretty much did go "underground". Top 40 radio is generally what introduces pre-teens to music. Rock not being there meant that millions of kids never heard it as an option in those formative years. It is possible that the only rock they heard was from classic rock stations, which they likely characterized as "old people music". Because new rock required more "digging" to find and enjoy, it could be thought of as going "underground".

In the early 70's, though singer/songwriters dominated pop stations, the Doors, Led Zeppelin, Foghat, Pink Floyd, Black Sabbath, ect still made top 40 radio. In the 80s, hair bands were a major part of the top 40 charts.

When is the last time you heard a rock band on a top 40 radio station? Is Gaslight Anthem on there? How about Cage the Elephant? Mutemath? Tame Impala? Black Keys? Raconteurs? Alabama Shakes? Good luck. Blink 182 songs from 15 years ago still get more play on WFMF today than any of the aformentioned bands ever will.

Garbage? Without a doubt. I don't think any intelligent person would disagree.

You know,as bad as it is,it's really hard to write it.
I have tried hard to do it. There's a lot of money in it if you can do it,wouldn't even have to put my name on it,just publish it under my wife's name.
I know the publishers with the connections, and haven't been able to do it yet.

this is pure fantasy bullshite btw. literally none of those bands ever had a hit single or "dominated the pop stations" like you think they did.

see for yourself:

1970
1971
1972
1973
1974
1975
1976
1977
1978
1979

fwiw, you sound like a fool who has no idea about what he's talking about.

Listen and study other types of music that you like. It'll make your country better.

The Doors had a top 15 single in 1971 with "Love Her Madly" and of course had huge pop hits in the '60s

I don't care for the other acts so I'm no expert on their chart appearances.

Zep had one big hit single: "Whole Lotta Love" in '69

PF may actually have made the pop charts with "Money"

Foghat got airplay on AOR stations and may have scraped the bottom of the pop charts once or twice

I'm pretty sure Sabbath never had a hit single in the US. They were never really a big deal in the States until Ozzy started getting outrageous publicity in the '80s.

Some suggestions so you can stop bitching
Sturgill Simpson - a freakin genius
Chris Stapleton- yeah he's hit mainstream but he puts the rest of Nashville to shame
Dale Watson - He's Texas Honky Tonk...he lies when he drinks
Wrinklenecked Mules- They got famous in a Geico commercial, but they are solid

Hit these guys up listen to them and then burn your Brad Paisley T-shirt and send it to the wusses at Fl/GA line

Blackberry Smoke is the only "modern country" I can enjoy, though they have more in common with Lynyrd Skynyrd than Brooks n Dunn.

Oh, I have been listening and studying music all of my life, I am a pretty good songwriter.

I am just saying that writing for Country radio is very difficult. The limits are very narrow. The rules very rigid. The formula isn't going to change,as long as record sales and radio market numbers are good.

I am not worried about it ever happening, I still am going to write however I write.Continue pitching it,playing it,etc..It would be nice to have a hit though,it is a lot of money.

There was a transition period between the era of Willie, Waylon, Haggard, Twitty, Jones, etc that was still good music but just more mainstream.

That era of the 80s and early 90s when Randy Travis, Clint Black, George Strait, Dwight Youkam, Garth Brooks, etc were the most popular artists.

The transition from that era to now is much worse than the transition from the above two eras. Everything considered mainstream now uses the same template. Not a lot of depth put into the context of Nashville songs these days because they have figured out that Americans have grown more simple minded as the years go by. People who really like Bro country music just want a catchy beat to dance or shake their head to and sing along with a catchy chorus. Simple. America has no shortage of simple minded people.

All of this.

It's pretty much writing simple songs thet cater to a young country baw "I like cold beer too!" and putting a good looking "country boy" behind the mic for the ladies.

Watch an episode of party down south and you'll see the exact morons they're targeting

Yeah but his songwriting skills leave something to be desired. I'm not sure what he's getting at in most of his stuff. However if given a choice between him and say, Blake Shelton or FL/GA Line, I'll take Paisley

Yeah, Paisley is a great picker,by anybody's standards. A lot of the current artists are great musicians,it's just the content is lacking.Always the same old thing.
That is the way the programmers like it.They really are the problem IMHO.In all genres of music.

I was born in the early 80's, so when i become aware of country music, it was the 90's. I never liked it, or so I thought.

When I got older I realized I liked bluegrass, and later on I found myself enjoying country music from the 80's and earlier.

It's not my favorite genre by any means. I'm simply a fan of good song writing, and country music had it in spades for decades.

Bro country is literally the only country I listen to. The whole country music scene is complete shite, but at least the brou country movement owns that, and just plays songs about drinking beer and having fun. FGL, Billy Currington, Luke Bryan are all awesome for having a beer on the lake. All older country sucks arse.

Bobby Bones is the worst. Literally every new song and artist that comes out is the greatest thing he's ever heard.
