Why yes I do! Very solid band. I would certainly buy a ticket if they came to BR not during finals week.

any LZ fan should give them a shot. They're pretty good.

MGMT is too poppy and techno for my tastes. I hate synthesizers and I hate sampling tracks. Also, "Take Only What You Need From Me"'s hook (do do do du do da do da doooo da doooo) annoys the heck out of me.

the moon has a nice history of booking bands since the late 90's .... Trail of the Dead, Frank Black, Dick Dale, Eek A Mouse, Blonde Redhead, L7, Spoon, Citizen Cope, Kermit Ruffins, XX, Built to Spill to name a few.

really picked up the slack after the Bayou burned down and the Varsity transitioned to shite after Glen left.

you are right Souljah ... the moon has been the most diverse venue in Baton Rouge for some time. The Bayou didn't really have hip hop acts.

The varsity once had that diversity .... where else could you see Public Enemy one weekend then Widespread the next.

The moon has awesome booking. Aaron does a great job when he's around. He's been busy as hell with managing givers.

very true ... a nice foundation was laid out in the late 90's by a few other independent talent buyers who also started the cash cow Star 80 until Aaron came along and continued to grow the venue into what it is today

I wish they'd get rid of these stupid dance nights and djs they do now and get back to booking bands. It seems they don't book nearly as many actual bands as they did a few years ago. I guess the dance parties bring in bigger crowds.

You just posted one of the three reasons I don't generally go over there.

1. I don't like rap, dubstep, techno, hip/hop, or DJs in general and they book a lot of those there. When they do book actual bands, they tend to be a little on the techno or dubstep side of rock.

2. Their covers are a little pricey for what you get sometimes. $15 for 80s night when there isn't even a live band? $20 cover for a local nobody band that's $5 at North Gate?

3. It's in a very ghetto neighborhood that my gf doesn't feel safe going to at night.

Ok first off, eighties night has always been $5 cover. Free for ladies.

Secondly, there's never been a local show that's ever cost $20.

Ever.

Every time I've looked up a band they had there, they've always been a little techno-ish (lots of synthesizer) or very poppy and hipster/gay sounding.
