The stones followed every musical trend of the last 50 years.

At least they never played ska music.

Wilco, for example, has changed their sound a couple of times and I still hold them in high regard..

Here, here. It's not about change or lack of change, it's about substance. The OP just chose two shitty bands to make an argument. And a shitty argument at that.

And thanks doc, that gif still makes me laugh.

Liz Phair went from making one of the most iconic records of the 90s, to making unapologetic, Matrix produced, pop records made for top 40 radio...

To her credit, she has admitted to being a single mother and needing to get paid to provide for her child, so she sold out on purpose... More power to her, I wont buy those records but it doesnt take away from the brilliance of Guyville...

If you had just one wish
How much do you wanna bet
That you'd wish for success for yourself and your friends?
And that would include lots of money

Yeah, I love Liz Phiar, but she openly and proudly sold out. She even gleefully told everyone she was doing it. But her first three albums are so f'n good. I prefer to remember her that way. I kinda liked her method of sellout. It was almost performance art.
