MB opinion on Solar brand guitars

My 16 yo decided he wants a Solar guitar, have any of you folks ever played one? He is looking at the AB2.7CAR MKII model. tia

I prefer wind powered guitars or even old internal combustion models.

I offered to buy him an American made strat but that was a no go. Kids are always smarter than their parents.

I haven't kept up with solar guitars, but I know a couple of years ago they were having problems with their ebony fretboards cracking. No idea if that's still an issue.

Ebony can have that issue. It’s not the easiest wood to deal with and when shipping around the world from climate to climate is involved, makes it more difficult.
Dont know if larger manufacturers like Fender, Gibson, etc have issues with it, but a lot of smaller makers do.
I looked at a build out of a custom bass from Maruszczyk in Poland and they say on their website they can’t guarantee ebony fretboards from possible cracking.

I've had a few Solars cross the bench for simple setups and player-preference upgrades, never any problems or issues. Good guitars. Buy with confidence.
The primary reasons for ebony cracking range from quality of the board species; to age of the tree; to the actual cut of the lumber; to inadequate or rushed drying/curing; to inadequate maintenance (lack of oil conditioning) at either the point of manufacture and/or in the hands of the end user. Temp and humidity changes in shipping, even drastic ones, are typically not the ebony crack catalyst. Considering a new Solar comes with a warranty, I wouldn't sweat this.

Take him to a great shop and show him the difference. No comparison - and that Strat will last forever.
