Paul's sheepdog was named Martha but I seriously doubt the song is about the dog itself.

It's a really underplayed song. John hated it and called it Granny music but that's probably because he got mad and jealous any time Paul did solo work in 68. Anything with George Martin orchestration in it is fantastic.
