Malcolm Young suffers stroke, blood clot in brain
quote:

Could it be quitting time for hall of fame rocksters AC/DC? Various reports have it that guitarist/songwriter Malcolm Young has returned to Australia to be with his family and unable to continue performing.

Australian entertainment reporter Peter Ford tweeted to fans: "This is a sad story behind all this that I have chosen not to report ... boys played together privately a few weeks back."

What?

I tried to read the article, but it's hard to understand any individual sentence

Damn shame, but they have enough great music to fill the void should they stop. A top five all-time favorite rock and roll band of mine. Saw them live only once at the Centroplex back in the day, but it was a great show that I'll never forget.

Bon Scott was my favorite frontman, but they never lost a step with Brian.

I beg to differ.

Fair enough. I guess I was thinking of the huge drop-off and change in style bands like Van Halen took when losing their singer. AC/DC put out some solid rock albums after Bon's death, IMO.

I agree. They must have searched for a guy that sounded just like Bon.

AC/DC was the first and only rock concert I ever attended in the Hirsch Coliseum for the Who Made Who tour circa 1985.

I don't think Brian sounded much like Bon, but his voice certainly fit the group. Probably the best Act II of any rock band I can think of.

Hopefully this ends up not being true, but if it does hopefully Mal can live out his remaining year comfortably.

I love the first two albums they did with Johnson (hell, Black In Black is the main reason I fell in love with rock music), but even then he had none of the stage presence or charisma of Scott. They ended for me after 'For Those About' when they started doing their own producing and came out with 'Flick Of The Switch'. The writing went to shite and every song sounded like a lame copy of the last one. Despite the odd decent tune every decade or so, that's pretty much the demarcation line where they went to total shite musically.

And I just can't see Bon Scott getting down with the stupid inflatable props they used onstage in the '80s either.

I did see them at the Coast Coliseum back around 2000 and it was a great show if somewhat too loud. I was pleasantly surprised at how much of the old catalog they delved into.

They were using those props on their last tour. I like AC/DC as one of the great arena acts of all time, but I'm okay if they decide to hang it up. You can't pretend to be 25 forever.

From what I've read and heard on the radio the band got together to rehearse and Malcolm had no ability to play due to the stroke screwing up his hand. There is some sort of inner pact regarding one member no longer being able to play that the band would call It quits. Truly a sad day for music, one of the best rhythm guitarists ever.

Never got to see them live. Would suck if they stop playing.

My first rock concert was AC/DC Blow Up Your Video tour when I was in grade school. After that, they became my all-time favorite and Angus was one of the most influential guitar players for me as a kid. After that show, I saw Razors Edge, Ball Breaker, and Black Ice tours(missed Stiff Upper Lip by a day in Dallas )

If they are done, it is some what a sad day for me, but on the other hand thanks for memories and music

Good luck Malcom!

I should have clarified, that they started using in the '80s. I just can't see Bon riding around on some big inflatable dick onstage.
