Unless the old talent buyer for varsity wants to get involved with booking again but I doubt he does.

He does. That’s why they’re reopening.

Chris? Or Alex. Because there is a huge difference.

Let me see Aaron S. Vs Chris the Casino guy who is an a-hole?
I like the new Chelsea’s in this one. Better taste in booking, fresher vibe/space with close capacity and likely comparable sound.

And no doubt a better graphic designer for posters. Varsity coming attraction board looked straight out of the 90’s last time i was in town.

I’m just happy i am in cities with more than 2 or 3 options.

the sound is much better in chelseas. the varsity had/has a very good board but the monitors are all outdated so the stage sound sucks. everything at chelseas is new and of course when planning this music venue dave did it right.

Brent is the one booking the Varsity again.

brent was never really the booking/talent buyer there. There was chris, who left to book at this casino, then alex who brought in all of the good shows. he stopped booking when it shut down for covid and focused elsewhere. it'll be interesting to see what brent actually books there.

Lucero kinda cringe now the dude sings songs about his kid now which is absolutely the lowest form of music

I mean I get you gotta still put out songs to pay the bills and maybe you don’t want to sing about drinking yourself to death forever but come on man

I’m kind of divided on them. They originally released really bad music then they got more proficient and were good and then they started adding horns and other cheese and now it’s songs about kids

blasphemy!

but yeah I feel you on the izzy song etc. just a fun song about his daughter. the newest album is a wild ride though. sonically very good. as far as songwriting goes, 2001-2006 lucero is the peak for me with the albums released in that timeframe.

We seem to have the exact same taste

"Lucero" and "Tennessee" are awesome. Live albums are hit and miss but "Live form Atlanta" is pretty solid. His solo album based on Blood Meridian is good as well.

Had a buddy who went to a metal show last night at Chelsea's and he said it's a pretty good setup. Just a big open space with a few bars.

Not sure what you're talking about. 1372 is full of horns, and it may be their strongest album front to back. And besides the silly kids sing they released as a single, I can't think of any songs about kids. He mentions missing a family in "Among the Ghosts," an obvious to 10 Lucero song. The latest album is full of drinking, regret, and violence, just like every lucero album.
