I'm sure this post will be downvoted but as someone who grew up on this genre it's pretty amazing to see it slowly being revived through artists like MGK, Yungblud, Mod Sun, Kennyhoopla, Olivia Rodrigo, and somewhat with Halsey, with most of these artists doing collabs with Travis Barker and Avril Lavigne. Not to mention the mega tour with Green Day, Weezer, and Fall Out Boy and the reunion of MCR. Early to mid 2000's rock is slowly returning

I’m dropping the first three tracks from my pop punk project in the next couple weeks. I’ll link it when it’s live

I’ll be going to see Rise Against and Menzingers in August

I think you're missing the point, we are seeing mainstream artists from other genres incorporate pop punk styles into their songs or just go full pop punk. It's kind of fascinating to watch a genre like pop punk get relaunched into the main stream via rappers, pop artists, and Tik Tok

I’ll admit I loved pop punk growing up(Blink,Sum 41, Good Charlotte etc) and I didn’t know MGK was doing this stuff now. I listened to his new album and I wouldn’t say it’s bad but I just don’t relate to the high school sucks, angry at life, angry at my girlfriend lyrics anymore. I still jam the original stuff for nostalgic reasons.

Love Avril, she rocked. Like Blink as well. I'm hard core 60's rock, but early 2000's had some good music.

Pop Punk is for poser pussies who want to be punk but don't have the balls for it. It's the emo of goth, but more embarrassing

Menzingers isn’t pop punk and neither is bayside really. Red city radio is another punk band that is special.

I don’t think you’re understanding the appeal. Pop punk was fun, approachable music about love and teen angst. It had heavy guitars and drums that appealed to metal heads, romantic lyrics and pretty boy frontmen that appealed to girls, and alt fashion and sad lyrics that appealed to goths and punks. That’s how it was able to grab such a large marketshare at a time when rap metal and grunge were king. It was happy, fun, safe music. I feel like it has a lot in common with the ska wave a few years before. It was music that suburban band nerds could feel cool listening to that also wouldn’t scare their parents’ too much.

In my opinion, pop punk was the hair metal or bro country of its time.

Just because it’s cheesy and a bit juvenile doesn’t mean there wasn’t some legitimately interesting stuff being done from a songwriting perspective. While I can see why someone who wasn’t a teen at the time would struggle to identify with it, it’s appeal isn’t a mystery.

Really looking forward to that rise against show at the Fillmore

This is accurate. I do understand the appeal, but I think it's poser music. Then again that's what pop music is in general: it's poser music that very often taps into a specific niche genre

Are you describing Pop Punk of a certain era?

Yes, the pop punk of the era in which pop punk was mainstream successful, roughly 2001-2005 (Blink and Greenday were popular sooner and fallout boy and Panic kept it going, but that era in the early 2000’s was the peak)

There was also the “dead cat bounce” era of pop punk around 2012 that was heavier and shoutier, but it failed to have the same level of pop culture relevancy. Machine Gun Kelly is hugely influential now despite sounding like if the Chipmunks were singing along to anime video games at 5x speed.

Every era needs “fun” music about love that teens can drink to and maybe dance a little bit that still appeals to boys. In the 60’s, that was the Beatles, the 70’s, it was bands like Foreigner. In the 80’s, hair metal. The 90’s had stuff like third eye blind and better than ezra, the 2000’s had pop punk, the 2010’s bro country. There’s always a demand for silly love songs that boys don’t have to feel ashamed of liking too. The question is what will fill that niche next?

Isn’t that kinda the whole point, though? One thing that kinda keeps pop punk from being so easy to ridicule despite the mountains of material is its lack of self-seriousness. Pop punk was sorta a joke the bands themselves were in on. Bowling for Soul and Good Charlotte had hits that were almost entirely tongue in cheek satirical songs not meant to be taken seriously. Early Blink and Sum 41 marketing were all about having fun and childish hijinks. Hair metal gets ripped on for being silly because it was silly and those perpetrating it didn’t realize it (or pretended not to). Pop punk was meant to be silly, because they straight up DGAF. Pop punk succeeded by being the perfect marriage of the DGAF attitude and style of grunge with the major keys and fun aesthetic of hair metal.

Menzingers early stuff is debatable pop punk, but they never play it anymore
