It once was a Rock festival, primarily progressive, industrial, and Alt Rock. . .with a few Rap or Pop gimmick acts thrown in

Now the handful of rock bands are the novelty gimmicks

Rap and pop are the majority of the main acts. . .followed by EDM and Soy Bands like Michigander

I watched Limp Bizkit set live today. As a 40 year old it brought back some memories and a smile. Haha

I mean I agree the lineup is 180* different than what Perry was trying to pull off 30 years ago however Voodoo, Coachella and others have been running these types of lineups for years.
I was just saying Foo is one of those few bands that still crossover enough to close a festival.

Popular music changes in 30 years. They’re going to book acts that attract ticket buyers.

It’s interesting to note that Nirvana never played at Lolapalooza, given that both are synonymous with grunge culture.

Allegedly Nirvana turned down Lolla in 1994 I think. I guess it wouldn't have happened even if they agreed due to Kurt's death. What's crazy were the early days side stage as Nine Inch Nails, Stone Temple Pilots, Cypress Hill and Rage Against The Machine played on side stages. DAMN I miss Lolla. I went in NO every year and in Dallas in 97, maybe? The Dallas lineup had Snoop Dogg, Lost Boyz, Prodigy and Tool. Was one of the best as far as space.

Did you see Metallica headline Lolapalooza in New Orleans after the release of their "Load" record?

I was a big fan at the time and really wanted to go, but couldn't.

I did. I remember being totally exhausted by the time they came on. Was a good show although I watched from way back, sitting on an over turned garbage can.

Not that year but the most memorable from the Lollas I went to was Rage Against the Machine, Beastie Boys, Tribe Called Quest and Alice In Chains WITH Layne. I'll never forget that one. Layne wore a tuxedo if memory serves.

The one in Dallas was good but different. Tool doing mostly Aenema was legendary. Maynard wore a pink latex skirt. Also The Prodigy were AWESOME. I'm not much of an EDM guy but back then they rocked. Korn was supposed to play but Monky got meningitis or something.

Lollapalooza 96 in New Orleans might be the best total festival lineup I have ever seen.
Metallica,Soundgarden, Rage Against the Machine, The Ramones, Rancid, Waylon Jennings, Screaming Trees on the main stage & a completely coked out of their mind Sponge was on a side stage. It was insane.
