After he Dire Straits dissolved in 1995, his solo career started off pretty disappointing. He had a couple good songs (What it is, Boom like that) that probably got on the radio but no great albums like people were expecting.

However, I’ve personally found his last 4 solo albums to be excellent and far better than his first 6.

2009- Get Lucky
2012- Privateering
2015- Tracker
2018- Down the Road Wherever

Shangri-la, Sailing to Philadelphia, and Ragpicker's Dream are great albums. I've been listening to Down the Road a lot. I also listen to Tracker regularly.

Sailing to Philadelphia is a great album.

El Macho is one of my favorite of Mark Knopfler's songs.

One thing about Mark Knopfler - his guitar tone is instantly identifiable.

He is definitely one of the greats !

I've been a fan of his since hearing the solo on Sultans. Love his playing that stratocaster.

I really like his first few albums. Golden Heart and Sailing to Philadelphia are both solid IMO and have aged pretty well. As he's gotten older it seems like he's focusing less on his guitar playing.

He's pretty good. But guitar George knows all the chords.

I really liked Golden Heart (1996) and really, everything else he's done. But yeah, he's still putting out top notch music and his later stuff is every bit as good as his early solo work.

One of my favorite records to play as background music is his Local Hero soundtrack. I think he made that while still with Dire Straits though.

That's a great video about how he developed his style. Here's another one I like a lot.
