Haven’t lived in BR in a long time, but remember that on Saturday mornings there was a program called “The Truer Sound” that played Alt Country stuff like Son Volt, Whiskey Town, Uncle Tupelo, etc.

I suppose that program is likely long gone.

Anyone remember that program?

Not gonna lie, the artists you mentioned make think I'd have enjoyed it. But I was either sleeping or too high or hungover to function on the Saturdays I lived in Baton Rouge.

I remember it. The intro song to the show was Windfall by Son Volt when the show first aired.

Does anyone remember a show in the 80's on a station out of New Orleans, I think, that was called, "Remember When"?

They played music from the '40s and '50s. It was cool to hear those songs that I'd never heard.

WWIW 1450? Sorry for linking to Wiki, but here 'tis anyway: LINK. Around 1996, The Zephyr was close (kinda) to buying their old studio building on St. Charles.

I searched my memory, and the internet, further, and realized that it was KHOM in my hometown of Houma. I think it was Tuesday night. Really cool, even though I was usually listening to Led Zeppelin and R.E.M., to hear songs from an older era.

Thanks, though!

KHOM was a fun radio station. In retrospect, local owner Ray Saadi let the staff do some weird stuff on a full-power signal.

I do not understand why Sirius XM can't get this right.

"truer sound" is a reference from a Son Volt song. Nice to see you reference that as something that was played

Dallas has a public radio station, KNON, that has a country show that played Uncle Tupelo, Terry Allen,Robert Earl etc back in the early to mid 90's. That show is still on but I haven't listened to it in years. It's called Texas Renegade Rodeo from 4-6pm weekdays. Its original name was "Super Roper Redneck Review" which is a much cooler name. They had a big shake-out in the late 90s where a lot of the good DJs left and the quality went down. I volunteered at the station for a while but when all this went down, it reminded me of the crap that happened at KLSU in the late 80's that destroyed the music quality (i.e. playing new, unknown bands) that it took years to recover from.
