Not sure what the point of posting some of his lyrics is. Do you not care for them? That doesn't negate his musical talent. I don't recall anyone saying he is a poet or anything. Can you post some rap lyrics that you do enjoy?

"Power" is one of his best songs. I don't really care for the other two you posted.

Kanye produces Hip-hop/R&B.

Shirley produces rock.

I don't think he really knows much about Kanye or the industry to really be able to make a legitimate argument. He kinda just seems like that old man that blames the youth for all the problems in this world

This is an ongoing argument about the talent that it takes to make it in the pop/rap genre. There was a thread started a week or so ago and I figured since the title of this thread was "Kanye is a no-talent bitch", it was just a continuation of that.

If you were to put a decent/really good rock/metal/country guitarist and Kanye in separate engineering rooms and give both an electric guitar, bass guitar, effects, a decent amp, Toontrack EZdrummer, an audio interface and 3 hrs and tell them both to "make music", that true musician can outproduce anything that Kanye West can do. There are hundreds of thousands of true musicians that have musical talent. Many of you guys fail to separate talent from artistry.

Or this guy....

Or this guy....

There are plenty of R&B/pop/rap producers with tons of talent. People try to make it like it's old crusty rock guys that hate rap. It's not. It's just that Kanye sucks and has no real talent.

I think you're failing to realize that there is a difference between the types of production that people like Shirley do and what people like Kanye do.

Kanye absolutely has talent. However the guy has some mental issues. He's arrogant, a narcissist; yet comes across as incredibly insecure at the same time.

And Kanye is one of them. You're straight up wrong here. He's one of the best.

I will say I like "You Don't a Know My Know My Name" by Alicia Keys, which he co-produced.

One of the best at producing the crap that is on the radio, yes.

Can Kanye:

--sing without autotune?

--read or write music?

--play piano, or any wind or string instrument?

I don't know. That's why I'm asking.

IMO, if he can sing with or without autotune, he can call himself a vocalist.

If he can read/write music or play a musical instrument other than drums, he can call himself a musician.

Regardless, he can GTFO of my yard.

I'm no Kanye expert, but I think I can answer these. He can sing without autotune, and does on many songs. But he's not what anyone would consider a talented vocalist. But I guess technically he's still a vocalist.

I don't think he can read or write music in the traditional sense. But his IS a songwriter. He just employs a team of writers to do the hard parts. For example, that song with Rihanna and Paul McCartney is credited to nine different songwriters. NINE.

And as far as his ability to play a musical instrument, I don't believe he can. I read an online article that listed a dozen or so hip hop producers who can play instruments; and it mentioned that neither Dr. Dre nor Kanye West can play instruments, but as producers, must have a basic understanding of piano. Clearly, that was an assumption on the author's part.

So, although I see people constantly telling me how talented Kanye West is, I've come to the conclusion that his greatest talent is his ambition and drive. And i'll leave it at that.

Nothing wrong with that.

But I'll be damned if I ever call him a musician.

I didn't know people labeled him as one.

He's a rapper, songwriter, record producer, director & fashion designer. Not a musician.
