Anyone go, and how was it?

Yes. It was a last minute invite from friends.
They did a great show for “seasoned” musicians. As in they had their set down, tried to keep the energy level up and sounded good. N Schon played a LOT of solos (seemed like practice scales at some points) and got pretty monotonous at times. They have a drummer that sings a lot of Steve Perry parts and nailed them. Overall they gave the crowd what they wanted and played a professional gig. But I am old enough to have seen the classic Journey lineup - this was good but it wasn’t like that. Father Time is undefeated.

We were at the show in Tupelo the night before. I had a good time.
No, they don’t sound like they did 40 years ago; who does?
They had a little bit of a rough start with the sound, I felt like it was a problem with the mix but once they fixed that it was a lot better.
But the place was packed and it was a fun show. Drummer Deen Castronovo was great and he actually got the biggest ovation at the end. The camera they had on him behind the drumset shows he is working hard back there.
Arnel Pineda sounded good and sang with a lot of energy. Neil Schon was Neil Schon. Jonathan Cain came out in a Tupelo High School football jersey so he got some play from that.
I always drag my daughters to these things so they can say they saw them. They always have fun once they figure out exactly who they are seeing. They were kind of antsy in the beginning while they did the “deep tracks,” but once the band started cranking up all the hits and radio songs they got into it and had a good time too.
I thought it was fun, I would go back to see them again, and I was never more than a casual Journey fan. Lots of people there who had seen Journey several times before said they enjoyed it too.

Isn’t Neal Schon the only original member left?

They? Only 72 year old Neil Schon is with "Journey" now. They are basically a mediocre cover band. I don't get the desire to see the current pathetic versions of once great bands.

It’s hit or miss. I’ve seen the last two tours of Jeff Lynn’s ELO and both shows were fantastic. You can tell him and the entire operation are polished pros.
Saw Journey a few years ago and it was okay. Chicago is another one that may as well be a cover band.
The most surprising was Dave Mason. Dude was an old man but showed everyone how to properly play a fender. And he made sure we all knew it too.

They don't have that little Asian dude running around, imitating Perry?

2026 "Journey" is an authorized cover band of the 1970s/1980s band named Journey.

Yes, but that isn't relevant. Steve Perry isn't an original member just as Bruce Dickinson isn't an original member of Iron Maiden.
For many bands lineup changes are either: prior to hitting it big, while hitting it big or well after. For Journey it was "in the middle" so classic/authentic lineups are more tricky.
Journey (effectively a "sequel" of sorts to Santana - Schon and Rolie, with Carlos' encouragement, formed Journey as they were leaving Santana) didn't really hit it big until Infinity (1978) which almost made it to the Top 50 albums, and their first Top 100 hit - Wheel in the Sky. Prior to that, Next, had gotten into the Top 100 albums, but only to 85 and of the 4 singles from the first 3 albums, none had charted at all.
So, by the time of Infinity, they had a couple of personnel changes already, but the "core four" of the early Journey (the recording era, the first 3 albums) were Rolie (keys, vocals), Schon (lead guitar), Valory (bass), Dunbar (drums) and the key addition for Infinity was Steve Perry (vocals) in his first album with them. With now 2 lead vocalists, Journey recorded only 1 album with that lineup (Infinity) and had changed out Dunbar for Steve Smith by the time of Evolution. So, this Evolution lineup lasted a total of 3 albums (Evolution, Departure and Captured).
After Captured, Rolie departed and was replaced by Babys keyboardist Jonathan Cain for Escape and that was the lineup for the "monster" era of Journey - Escape and Frontiers. The rhythm section was fired for Raised on Radio and sidemen (including Randy "Dawg" Jackson, as well as legendary session man Bob Glaub on bass and fired drummer Steve Smith) played the rest of the parts on the album.
Journey would be on hiatus for 9 years until Trial By Fire which was the last roundup of the Escape/Frontiers lineup. The "Who TF can possibly replace Steve Perry" era began in the late 1990s.
An "authentic" Journey lineup would have to have Neal Schon, frankly. Next, one would need either Rolie or Cain on keys. (So they have that presently). I think it would have to include Ross Valory on Bass. I think it would have to have either Steve Smith or perhaps Anysley Dunbar on drums (although Castronovo has had long stints in the band and is likely acceptable to all but purists). If you are generous, give them 1/2 on the current rhythm section - and Castronovo is a great second lead vocalist. (Recall Bad English - which was effectively 3 Babys - Waite, Phillips and Cain, 2 Journeys, Cain and Schon and 1 future Journey, Castronovo).
The lead vocalist is the thing. If they're doing material from the late 70s through mid 80s (which is all their fans want to hear) without Steve Perry, it is a step away from goodness. The Philipino kid is great, however, IMHO.

Jonathan Cain has been in the band since 1980. Steve Perry was not an original member.
By your standards, Journey was a "cover band" starting in 1977.
For "Escape" in 1981, there were only two original members and only one (Schon) by 1985, although bassist Ross Vallory later rejoined.
Very few established "classic" bands have even a majority of original members.
