I’m sorry but I just don’t like the new RHCP sound. I thought “I’m with you” was the worst album I’ve heard by them.

I’m warming up to “Dark Necessities” but it’s taking/taken a while. They’re one of my all-time favorite bands, but they just don’t sound the same without John.

He's pretty good live but yeah he can't hold a candle to John. They really should have stopped once he left.

Stadium Arcadium was their last great record. I listened to that thing so many damn times when it came out. A goddamn double-album? Who even does that?

She Looks to Me, Wet Sand, Turn it Again, Death of a Martian all amazing songs.

Josh is very talented and had learned a lot from John long before he left RHCP. He waa the most sensible replacement, and still is. I wasn’t a fan of I’m With You, and I wasn’t a huge fan of Mothers Milk (john’s first album with the band). I thought Dark Necessities was a lot better effort than the previous, and still love the title track, but it didn’t have a lot of staying power like most of John’s albums.

Frusciante background vocals are far superior as well.

And yes, Stadium Arcadium is an incredible album

Maybe I need to give SA a chance. I gave up on RHCP after One Hot Minute. I saw them on the Californication tour even though I wasn't really into that album and it was just a boring arse show. Seemed like they were going through the motions to make their money. Haven't given them a chance since.

Stadium Arcadium is probably my favorite album by them as well. So many good songs, although the only had a few singles but Wet Sand, Desecration smile, especially in Michigan, she’s only 18, she looks to me, storm in a teacup (guitar is nasty)... I could go on and on.

Besides BSSM, their best work was after One Hot Minute IMO. Californication, By The Way, and Stadium Arcadium are all awesome albums. But if you con't like Californication, then you might not like the ones that followed. Though I would give By The Way a shot. It's probably the most Frusciante album of their catalogue.

Josh does a decent job of emulating John on songs John wrote, but he's not nearly as creative on guitar, and I like Josh.

Was doing some reading up on Frusciante recently and I didn't realize just how much conflict between he and Flea there was. I think that had most to do with his leaving.

And yes, I'm With You was horrible. They are a completely shite band now. Have zero interest in anything they do.

“Dosed” from that album is an awesome track from that album. Frusciantes’s guitar and vocal work is beautiful

There was a major falling out during the sessions for By The Way. John was such a prolific writer, he intimidated Flea. Flea felt pressured to keep up, and I believe he felt that the Peppers were more his band than John's. It's called 'John's album' for a reason.

It's an amazing album, from beginning to end. Venice Queen still kicks my arse every time I listen to it.

I don’t think so. Yes, Flea was not happy with his role in BTW, but they are still friends and have done side projects together. Frusciante left because his heart wasn’t into that kind of music any more. All you need to do is take a listen to his solo catalogue since The Empyrean (written after he decided to leave) and it’s obvious.

Despite RHCP being huge Frusciante is still vastly underrated. One of the greatest guitarists of the 90s. Absolutely love his tone.

He most certainly outgrew the Chili Peppers (can you blame him?) but sadly his output since leaving has been forgettable. "Muderers" from 02 or 03 is a phenomenal track though.

I'm warming up to Josh and he has a great personality - he's what the band needs, no question, for the live set and more so than another guitarist they could reasonably get.

Having said that, Frusciante is irreplaceable.

It definitely had some effect. After a double album that John had another massive influence on, I think it had an influence on him wanting to do something different and feeling like he'd done all he needed to do. That band was not the 4 amigos like some like to think. There was some pretty hard internal dynamics at play.

Thanks to this thread, I rewatched basically all of the Slane Castle concert from 2003, which was a “By the Way” heavy show.

Frick what an awesome performance by everybody.

I agree. I too am a huge RHCP fan. But I can't hate on JK. It is JF who went full retard and started making electro music. And that shite isn't even bearable. Dude has that gift/curse of 50% genius and 50% full retard.
