Great description of how I personally feel about Joe Bonamassa's music. It's like he read all the book's on how to play blues guitar and he perfected it. I actually really like watching him nerd out on guitars and amps in youtube videos. You can see his passion and knowledge. He can play with the best of them. But the music he puts out just doesn't capture me at all.
My friend Steve Staples (guitarist for Iceman Special) ran a guitar shop in Nola for years called International Vintage Guitars. He sells really high end collections of guitars. Pre-pandemic (the shop is now in Oakdale), JB would come in his shop and grab some axes off the walls and try them out in his live shows. Some of the guitars are really expensive, think 6-figs and up.

Listened to blues guitar all of my life. There are too many great, soulful, interesting players to waste time on Joe B.
That said, I do enjoy his gear videos. You can tell he grew up in a music shop.

Whatcha no good? was a greeting between my Dad and his good friends back in the day.
It would go like this: hey cuz, Whatcha no good? Just you! You don't know much do you? I guess not! Then they all laugh and the real bullshite starts.
Some songs bring stuff back.

Iceman Special is my current favorite band alive. Caught them randomly at Hogs a few years ago and have been obsessed since. Literally cannot get enough of their music live or otherwise. Glad Steve is still playing.
Tour Thru Ecuador and Round Corners live are mind and life altering experiences.

Nice, baw. I am glad to hear that. They’re all rock solid humans, a great group of guys. Hard workers and not waiting on anything to be given to them. They recently ditched their drummer but have found some good cats to fill the role until they settle on one. Dig into their other band as well, if you haven’t already. HollyRock…Steve is lead guitarist in that as well, with Will on vocals and Charlie on drums.

Tried to get into him and listened to a bunch of stuff to try to justify paying the ticket price to see him.
Reminded me of Ygwie Malmsteen. I totally appreciate the virtuosity and technical wizardry but I don’t feel it in my gut.

Some dudes need to rattle off 100 notes in four bars that players like BB King can say in one. Give me the minimalist.

Joe does great covers, but his originals are hit and miss.

This! He rips, but most of his songs are meh to me. I saw him do ZZ Top's Just Got Paid though and wow.
