I think Eric Clapton is the most overrated, really. Stevie Ray Vaughn, Duanne Allman, Mark Knoffler, Jimi Hendrix are the best.

Curious, was is the thought process of clapton being overated? I don't thing his techincal skills can be questioned and he is a hell of a songwriter. What doesn't impress you with "clapton is god"?

These threads are so stupid. It's an art, and can't be measured. It's not about technical skill. It's about what you like.

The difference in technical skill of the people on you list is minimal to non-existent. It is their style and song-writing that sets them apart. And that is a matter of opinion.

This is a sports board. More importantly, we are Americans. We rank things. American Top 40. BCS Top 10. "We're number 1!!"

We must have a champion

All real Americans love a winner and will not tolerate a loser

Every guy you listed is a shredder more or less. Playing scales really fast isn't all that impressive to me. People put jimi on a pedestal for the soul he put into his compositions, and he absolutely was the best at that.

1. It is absurd to name any single musician as either "most overrated" OR as the greatest.

2. Playing extremely fast and exact in and of itself is representative of dexterity, not musicianship. It's also boring, self-indulgent and appeals to adolescents.

3. The fact that someone can duplicate another guitar player's licks means nothing. Nothing at all.

4. Jazz is, interestingly enough, may be the last refuge of the untalented (I've pointed that out previously).

5. Hendrix was incredibly innovative and completely changed the way people listen to electric guitar. He died in his twenties. It would have been interesting to hear him develop his technique.

6. The music board has great traffic and already is a success.

If you guys need to know
anything else, just let me k ow.
