I was at the old Piedmont Club on Jefferson Highway when the announcement came over the radio. I was a huge fan of the Doors when I was in college 10 years later.

In the rock and roll pantheon. Created a hard to top body of work. Went from facing the drum riser instead of the audience in his early concerts to leading drug fueled prayer meetings, where he allegedly exposed himself to the audience, and put on a different show every single night (listen to the bootlegs). Who knows where his career would have gone had he lived. RIP

His grave is the 2nd most visited tourist site in Paris.
One of the founding members of The 27 Club.

I've been to his grave actually. All the markers that give grave locations have his location scratched off. You have to follow other clues in the graveyard to find it.

Piedmont Club was the place back then. We were members for many years but ‘71 may have been early. Was mid 70s to early 80s for us.

We were members from the late 1960's until the mid-70's, but went until the late '70's with some friends who kept their memberships. Lots of Tara and BRHS kids there. We were the few Lee High kids who were members.

As Hunter S. Thompson said, when Morrison felt like it, the Doors could play with anyone.

Little known fact: the doors had a studio bass player on every album

whatever happened to the bar in New Orleans he talked about in that interview with the mural. The Bonaparte's Retreat or something. Can't find much online about it.

I can believe that about the bass. Watching to a 70 concert on YouTube and can't even hear a bass at times.
