Jerry would visit my wife's family in Caldwell parish when she was little girl before he was famous. Ate dinner frequently. Her 1st cousin,Cecil, married Jerry's sister. Cecil has Jerry's 1st cut single song they recorded in New Orleans. Was offered $30,000 at cajan pawn but wanted $100,000. He died, now his son has record in box at bank. Would be nice to have.

That dude Jerry Lee was a rambler, hell on wheels and hell on keys.

More than one church in north La used to be juke joints where Jerry and the boys lit it up.

They don't make em like JLL anymore.

And here are the two sides he cut. LINK LINK

His sister,Linda Gail, married my wife's 1st cousin (Cecil), and thanks Mizz-Sec for validating my story. However, Jerry married a child bride cousin later and got run out of England. Linda Gail married 6 times.

I know this thread is about JLL, but when I read it, all I heard was dueling banjos...

This thread was only brain fart on a rainy day,but all the research makes good reading. I just heard his instrumental for the 1st time. It amazes me a 16 year kid could play this way.

... from the link it sounds like at 16 he'd already been playing bars for a while.

Jerry Lee was truly one of a kind as a piano player. He was already fully formed and playing licks that would show up on recordings throughout his career.

I used to post on a JLL forum and heard lots of cool stories from long-time friends and fans. The best centering around his hotel concerts after the official concert. Into his 40's if there was piano at the hotel bar he was staying at fans knew to hang out there and eventually he'd show up and play for hours, taking requests, as the center of attention.

As a sociological study he's a fascinating contradiction in terms. Egotistical, yet accessible. Incredibly talented, yet his own worst enemy concerning his career. He could have very well been another Elvis career-wise, but he was untamable. A headstrong stallion that couldn't be broke or rode.

God bless him though. What a talent! LINK
