First year, I went to JF it was $10 at the gate. Tomorrow is $169. WTF? Night shows were like $5/10 in the 90's. Those were the days.
JF been in decline for years. Price gouging and headline performers that come are nowhere near what they used to be years ago. Following reflection the attendance decline. Better value for your hard earned $ elsewhere:

yea, I don't mean to be a bitch about JF, it's obviously great.
its just pricing so many folks out.
shite, I spent probably 1500 hours doing the night show grids for 3 years.
I can't even really afford to go.
I could but just don't think the value is really there anymore. But don't talk bad about it, makes me mad. One of those deals.
and I don't believe those #'s either.

Jazz Fest itself is worth the money. I am surprised at the cost of the night shows though. We were going to go to axial tilt and/or voodoo dead but both were 70 bucks LOL so we ate and drank instead
Mountain Grass Unit at the republic tonight; if you like bluegrass they are fantastic

I’m not one to bitch about the cost of things but I disagree. The fairgrounds are just a long, hot, tough slog. After parking, beer and food, I’ve spent nearly $400 pp.
Much better value and fun to do night shows and locals thursdays with the discount.

Yeah we decided against going to the fest yesterday. Went hiking at Jean Lafitte instead.
Last night went to Headhunters at Music Box Village then hopped over to NOLA Brewing. First time going to MBV, really neat place. Headhunters were fun. Very funky. Played Watermelon Man, Chameleon, Superstition, and a p funk song.
Filthy Six Allstars were indeed filthy. Figured with that lineup it'd be good, but it was great.

I was out there yesterday. It was absolutely packed and I had a great time. Someone must have forgot to tell everyone.

I went to this show a few years ago. I absolutely love music box village, just a fun place to catch a show.
As far as the festival is concerned, id much rather pay $50-70 for a night show in the a/c for 3 hours than deal with the festival grounds and everything that comes with it. To each their own.

Today was fantastic
Not nearly as crowded as yesterday and the music was world class.

Not as cheap as it used to be. I try to control the cost: get early bird prices on tickets, park for free on the street, bring in own food and drinks

So $360 for tix for my wife and I for one day is a good deal? it is not.
That's probably a $500-600 day (not even night) when all is said and done after food/drinks/parking.
I've hung out with some of those mtn grass kids before. A good friend is a friend of one of their parents. Love hearing their stories on the road.

Yeah I had FOMO about David Byrne, who is someone I will regret not seeing when he's not around. Would have also like to see Leftover at the FG, but not possible to see both as they were playing at the same time.

we caught 15 minutes of salmon then the rest of David Byrne. Both incredible
Uncle vinnie was fired up. Wish we could’ve stayed for their whole show but had to go hear live talking heads songs
yesterday alone we saw Chris Thomas King, Zion Harmonizers, Pine Leaf Boys, Boyfriend, David Byrne, Leftover Salmon, sunpie and the sunspots, and Zachary Richard. Beautiful day, not at all crowded and probably the best fest day I’ve had. More than worth the ticket price

I saw them at Dave's Pizza in Homewood in 2020, they were still in high school. Nice kids. Even bought a shirt. Very cool seeing them blow up like they have. Luke Black is a phenomenal guitar player. They are all very talented though.

I saw David Byrne at Shaky Knees in 2018 and it was one of my favorite festival sets ever. I had just turned 30, was coming off of a multi year relationship breakup, and lost a dear friend, all within like 3 weeks. I got emotional during Naïve Melody and shed some tears. One of those "everything will be ok" moments.

Like many NOLA events, Jazz Fest can be done without breaking the bank. We usually go during the week on a locals ticket. Free parking near/in City Park if you get there by 1:00 or so and don't mind a 15-minute walk.
Some days we skip the fest and spend the afternoon and evening bouncing between porch shows and block parties outside the Fairgrounds. Plus there are free in-store performances at LA Music Factory and Euclid Records on non-fest days.
Last night the Revivalists pop-up at Le Bon Temps turned into a block party. Tonight there's a free block party by Tipitina's before Shorty Fest.
Volunteering is another option - several years we worked a beer tent. Gets you in free, and groups usually have work schedules so everyone gets a few hours here and there during the day to experience the fest. Our tent was by the main stage, so even when working we got to enjoy the music.
