I saw LZ around 74-75 really cant say how good they may have been, the sound systems at the time were really limited by the technology available, concerts were usually insanely loud, but of terrible quality. Now that we have videos available of those concerts with the sound recorded direct from the mixing board we can now hear how amazing a lot of the shows of that era were.

Isn't that all just footage from The Song Remains The Same?

Such an overrated live act. The Who was much better with actual jamming.

I'm a LZ fan and saw them at the Assembly Center in the 70's. Always thought Jimmy Page was overrated. As can be seen in many of the live video's he trys to play too fast and misses alot of notes and his leads aren't clear. I realize his tone is heavy on distortion and he often played heavily loaded but they all did. Just my opinion. Let the down votes begin.

Just a fun little anecdote, my friend said he was sitting in front of Robert plant today at Barton springs.

I'd argue that LZ's music with that rock/blues/early metal vibe is way more about emotion than perfection. Hendrix is the easiest example of a player like this and I've heard people say similar things about his style, but he is my favorite.

Missing notes isn't a huge knock for me unless its to the degree where it is distracting and detrimental, but that's a personal preference I'm sure. Clapton for example is one of the best technical guitarists for sure and does not miss a ton of notes, but he isn't up in my favorite group that I listen to a ton.

That said, I do think Page is slightly overrated in terms of people putting him up as the best or a top 2/3 ever - but he is pretty fricking good and close to that range.

And saying all that, although I think Page may get slightly over glorified, LZ is still an all time great and I don't agree with anyone claiming they don't deserve their place up with the top tier of that era.

LZ would easily be one of my main considerations in the "if you could go back and see one concert" game along with Hendrix and Pink Floyd probably as the top 3 contestants.

The Grateful Dead and The Who were much better than Zeppelin live

They're the "Milli Vinilli" of hard rock.

Much preferable to sitting in back of Robert Plant, I expect. Dude's got a massive noggin.

The who has a better live reputation but I personally like LZ's songbook better. Can't go wrong with either.

EDIT: That is pretty jaw dropping......and how the hell anyone can post on here that Led Zeppelin and Jimmy Page are overrated is beyond me.
