I’m a big fan of both. They’re both incredibly gifted songwriters. Isbell is probably the better all around musician.

From The Dirty South to The Nashville Sound, Isbell has proven that he is in a league of his own when it comes to his songwriting.
In my opinion, he is the closest thing we have to Neil Young these days. Ironically, he hails from the same region that Young deplored for its racism and bigotry ("Alabama" and "Southern Man").

Boland is cooler and has a better voice. Isbell is a better song writer and a better whiney little bitch.
