Syd Barrett lost a ton by leaving Pink Floyd, not that he had a choice at that point in his life.

Justin Timberlake did pretty well after leaving NSYNC.

When the Eagles broke up, Henley and Frey made millions on their own..... but it was really cool when they got back together and did “Hell Freezes Over” tour.....

Axl lost a lot, they were on the verge of Stones like position in the world of Rock.Axl was erratic but he actually was not the worst of the members. Slash and Duff were living f'd up most of the time, showing up late for shows barely able to function. The guy who kept it together for them was Matt Sorum until he could not put up with it anymore.

They really lost a lot when Izzy Stradlin got sober and was "fired"

I don't believe she was the singer but the chick who started the Go-Gos was forced out by the other members just before they hit it big.

If Brian Jones had lived and stayed in the band... Keith Richards is supposedly worth something like $175M+, Jagger even more.

The Guess Who had a #25 hit "Shakin' All Over" w/Chad Allen. He left and was replaced by Burton Cummings, who sang lead on all the big hits. Apparently Cummings owns the music publishing rights to The Guess Who's songs (pulling a Michael Jackson and buying them behind the backs of the other band members), leading to considerable ill will from Randy Bachman and others.

Bachman (an insanely talented cat and good guy by most reports) was so put off by that, from then on he declined to put effort into anything his name wasn't on prominently.

...and his name is actually pronounced "back-man," not "bock-man," but he just decided to run with the latter pronunciation. They were my favorite band when I was in junior high and the first concert I ever attended (1975).

Lionel Richie, Vince Gill, Van Morrison, and Rod Stewart would be in the conversation for lead singer who made the most money by leaving their band.

Sammy Hagar would be a possibility for lead singer making the most money by leaving his band if "his band" is Montrose.

As far as losing money the contenders would be Andy Wickett and Jeff Thomas. Wickett was the original vocalist for Duran Duran who quit the band to be replaced by Jeff Thomas. Thomas than quit the band and was replaced by Simon LeBon. Also Eldridge Bryant who was fired by the Temptations and replaced with David Ruffin. There are also a whole loosely packed shite's worth of vocalists for shitty 90s teenage girl demographic pop bands who quit before the band made it big, especially Boys2Men vocalists. But those aren't real bands so the hell with them anyway.

Who then preceeded to rip off guitar riffs from every other artist under the sun without giving them credit so let's not kid ourselves, meet the new boss same as the old boss. (yes I know that's The Who, not The Guess Who. It's just an appropriate lyric for the subject of the post.)
