Georgia on a Fast Train is an all time favorite, never skip. I should admit, I didn't discover Shaver until the early twenty teens.

As mentioned, his son tears it up on guitar on that tune...and the lyrics:

"I've been to Georgia on a fast train, honey
I wudn't born no yesterday
Got a good Christian raisin' and eighth grade education
Ain't no need in y'all a treatin' me this way"

On the Tales from the Tourbus episode he said "I shot him right between the 'mother' and the 'fricker'."

Saw him too many times to count...always a good time!

Fun story: from the Tales From the Tour Bus...the leg wrestling story from his wedding in Vegas...the guy who broke his neck was my FIL. They were long time friends...FIL was in his wedding.

I met him once at Willie's picnic for the 4th in Fort Worth. Asked for an autograph and he said no. Bout all I got. I love his music and appreciate his badassery.

My favorite BJS story is when he wrote a bunch of songs for Waylon Jennings, but Waylon kept blowing him off. He followed him around trying to give him a demo tape for him to listen. He finally cornered him one night, grabbed him by the neck, pushed him up against a wall, stuck the tape in his pocket and said “you’re going to listen to this fricking tape and record these songs.”

It turned out to be the entire Honky Tonk Heroes album.

I was lucky enough to see him at a city festival in middle Georgia about 15 years ago. I knew nothing at all about him but really enjoyed his show. He talked about losing some of his fingers. Lump of Coal and Georgia on a Fast Train really stood out. His interview on the Norm Show was very good. Some highlights.
