35 years ago, the year was 1989 and one of the best songs ever made was released on the best album ever made by one of the best bands ever formed.
Fascination Steet

Best Extended mix of any song
Released on the 1990 album “Mixed Up”[b]

The Cure also released their 2nd album “Seventeen Seconds” on this day in 1980. Another amazing album.
Has another one of my favorites on it.
A Forest live

The only song that I would want to cover in any band I was in. Such a cool vibe.

I respect the band very much. I’ve never been a super fan. In 1989, I was kind of busy.

I can recall buying the single on vinyl before the album came out. I didn't have a working turntable at the time so I had to wait 5 days to hear it. My girlfriend at the time had a wealthy uncle for whom she was babysitting and I went with her and took the record too. He had a really, really nice stereo. The bass line was great on that system. The b-side Babble doesn't hold up with that dated baby cry/coo sample.

And y'all probably know that Facination Street is Bourbon Street.

Yes I did!! I wanted to add that in the post but forgot until this very minute. Thanks

quote:

"Fascination Street" was inspired by an alcoholic night in New Orleans.

In the liner notes for the compilation Galore, Robert Smith describes “Fascination Street” as:
A ‘generic’ song about the (often cynical) delights of exploring a new city nightlife; based loosely on one particular ‘band adventure’ in New Orleans 1985 – Bourbon Street, the cliche perhaps.

quote:

In an interview with Select magazine, Cure vocalist and primary songwriter Robert Smith said: "I was thinking of Bourbon Street in New Orleans when I wrote it - I was getting ready to go there and I thought: what the f--k do I think I'm going to find? It's about the incredulity that I could still be fooled into looking for a perfect moment."
