I had forgotten that song existed until driving home from vacation a couple of weeks ago. My wife and I were taking turns picking songs to play from YouTube. She put on “Smooth”, and as soon as Thomas started singing, I almost threw her phone out the window.

I have hated that song since the first time I heard it. Cringeworthy.

Agreed. Game of Love is a much better song. That Michelle Branch chick has some pipes.

I freaking hated that song back then. I can actually tolerate it now, but only because of Santana.

Rolling Stone did an oral history of how it came together recently.

How Carlos Santana scored his first hit in decades with help from Matchbox Twenty’s frontman — and how it almost didn’t happen. The making of the unlikely 1999 smash

Many, many people are tired of this song. Id gamble millions.

If I never hear it again I'll die happy.

I'm a Santana fan but adding Thomas made it trash.

American Woman

The original was a big deal too (kind of like Springsteen's born in the usa, people in the US dug it, without knowing it was a criticism of the US).
