Pulp - "Like A Friend" may be the best song from the Britpop movement.
Both Madchester and Britpop were incredibly top heavy genres with a lot of crappy imitations within. At least with Madchester/baggy you could somewhat hide a song's weaknesses by utilizing textured rhythms.

Their first 4 albums were awesome. Last two have been kinda meh. Absolutely fantastic live band
