The issue isn't that you like different music. It's that your criticisms of music you don't like aren't rooted in fact and you just talk out of your arse pretending to come from a place of knowledge.
I'm just going to take a stab at it and guess that a guy who smokes pot and likes psych rock stuffed you in a locker once.

I always felt like the occult stuff was kinda a jab at media folks that tried to paint rock and roll as the devil's music back in the 50's and 60's. Metal just took that attitude and was like "You think we're devils? We'll show you how dark and evil we can be!!!" The occult stuff was never more than a way to piss off the kinds of people
To prove your point, go back to Master of Reality by Black Sabbath and actually listen to the lyrics. Ozzie, despite all the spooky occult trappings, was actually singing some songs in support of Christianity! When you hear it, it's like 'wait.. what?'

Hey, Mind Mischief, the one song by them I like! If more of their songs sounded like that, I would be a fan.
And by the way, I'm friends with a lot of psych rockers. Heck, my drummer and bassist both listen to that stuff a good bit (though not as much as they do metal). I just don't like Tame Impala that much. Is that a crime? I don't hate on their fans. I don't call them "cringe", it's just not my thing.

I'm not a fan of techno indie pop
You obviously know nothing of Tame Impala. Remain in your dad rock bubble
Some people take this stuff too personal.

Most young kids are too closed minded to hear anything outside of auto-tune fluff.
I listen to KTRU Rice Radio in Houston all day streaming live at my desk- What they play gives me hope for the future- they play most every genre.

I think that was one of the main reasons for the divide between mine and my parent's generation. By the 70's, 80's and Nineties, music had morphed into something that I'm sure sounded like something from the pit of hell itself when compared to the popular music they grew up listening to in the Fifties.

It's a lot of things, but "rock" isn't one of them.

Rock never really went away. Here are the sales figures by genre from 2014:
And that's by track. The gap gets bigger if we look at album sales, where rock dominates, as it is an album driven genre, not singles based:
Rock music is, and has been, the best selling genre in pop music for as long as anyone can remember. The gap has narrowed, but the Rock is Dead pieces are frankly, wrong.
