Paul Simon just checked in

That would be Neil Peart, followed by Maynard James Keenan.
Wow.
I disagree but appreciate the effort.
My submission. John Prine.

Ronnie Van Zant
Wrong Van Zandt.
And John Prine is in the conversation well before Cat Stevens (who I like well enough - but please).

In the name of God please let this thread die

First, no.
Second, I have a Cat Stevens question. How come when a song from the beginning of John Mellencamps career doesn't show John Cougar, but John Mellencamp, but when a Cat Stevens song comes on it doesn't show Yusuf Islam?
How come one changes name and everyone adjusts and not on the other?

Just clicked on this thread to leave a downvote.
Was not disappointed in the ratio.

Came to post Robert Hunter. It’s not really close but Bob Dylan is 2.

How did it take Kafka 3 pages to post in this thread.
I saw the title a few days ago and knew it would give him a stroke.

Bernie gave Elton a ton of shite that Elton made sound good.
Rotten peaches, rotting in the sun
Seems I've seen that devil fruit since the world begun
Mercy, I'm a criminal, Jesus, I'm the one
Rotten peaches, rotting in the sun
Woof

You no likey Bernie?
I really like early Elton John, but Bernie Taupin was mediocre at best. He obviously knew nothing about the U.S. on Tumbleweed Connection - "Soon the pines will be falling everywhere, village children fight each other for a share." WTF?
He also co-wrote that "We Built this City" garbage.

I realize appreciate of music and lyrics is entirely subjective, but the lyrics to "Your Song", "Someone Saved My Life Tonight" and "Benny and the Jets", are every bit as important to those songs as the music.
