See, and for me I wouldn't put it that high. Just not as appealing to me. Individual taste is what makes rating these things so hard
Yeah, I think music is way too subjective to get worried about lists in that way. I was mostly joking in the previous post.

I actually think Veedon Fleece is Van's masterpiece
But Astral Weeks is a very very close second
And to whoever thinks Moondance is better, lulz. Moondance is a great collection of songs, but Astral Weeks as a cohesive album is a serious piece of art. Nothing else had ever sounded like that album before. Not a lot of things sound like it even today. Apples and oranges. Not sure Moondance would make my top 3 Van albums tbh

It's one of my two fave albums of all time, the other being The Kinks Are The Village Green Preservation Society. Which one is #1 depends on my mood at that moment. Trivia tidbit: my two fave albums were released one week apart in Nov 1968.
I generally avoid GOAT arguments. But in this case I will say that AW has the greatest bass ever to appear on a rock album, by jazz musician Richard Davis. It's the Jerry Rice of rock bass.
AW fans should check out a book published last year. Gives details not only of Morrison's career up to that point, but also the Boston music scene where the album was conceived.

I love folks talking about Van Morrisonand the Kinks.
It makes me happy to know I'm not alone in my tastes.
I then I learn you appreciate Moby Grape, and oh my I'm tingly.
