Sadly, I failed to recognize how great Maiden was until this record came out (I was a sophomore in high school). I can still hear my Dad's disdain for the music...and for the album poster I had on my bedroom wall. I don't dislike or skip over any song on any Maiden album. They truly perfected the metal genre...

Iron Maiden
Possibly the best hard rock band...even after 30 years.
They certainly should be credited with achieving god status with effectively zero support from the industry. Truly an amazing run.

Pay attention to the instruments

This is why I crown "Live After Death" one of the best ever...You got Adrian in the right channel, Dave in the left, and you can pick out the harmonies so easily balancing one way or another...it's just like you were at the show.

Check out "Rock in Rio"

It's a live album, with a little of the old stuff and some new stuff.

I'm sure it isn't a big surprise to a lot of Maiden fans, but some of the newer fans may not know that Bruce Dickinson is the pilot for their tour plane as well as lead singer.

They just got a new 747 earlier this year.

Bruce is a renaissance man.

He also was nearly an Olympic fencer, wrote a children's book, and has successfully completed treatment for head and neck cancer.

I was 13 years old when I heard the opening for The Trooper. It was on a commercial promoting their New Orleans show...on the old WRNO. I looked at my buddy and was like "What the hell was that!" I have been hooked ever since. Been around the country to see their shows. That day changed me musically. I literally love this band. At a time when I was listening to Def Leppard, Quiet Riot, and Van Halen, that radio commercial took me to another level and I haven't looked back since.

Ditto almost everything said in this thread would like to add do not forget the pre Bruce stuff, I love Original Album and Killers too. Someone mentioned A Matter of Life and Death that album is just a gem and is loaded with great songs. Also I think of Dave as much more of the lead and Adrian as the rhythm. I am not a guitarist but someone tell me I am wrong? Saw them in Tulsa this spring and holy shite they are still an awesome live band.

You are absolutely right. Dave plays a lot of leads and they are co-lead players. I've been listening long enough to tell who's soloing on their songs.

Dave always plays strats on the front pickup and it's pretty distinctive who is playing what. Yes I'm a Maiden freak.
