Taking my daughter tonight and she’s super pumped. Just read that the lead singer hardly sang in Houston last night because his voice was shot. He thought he’d be able to sing and ‘gave it a go’. Ended up having the crowd sing along all night.
Here’s my question assuming the show doesn’t get cancelled and his voice is still shot. Would they pull the singalong stuff, or since they have time to prepare, play a track of him singing? I’d much rather the latter as he’ll sound good and my daughter wouldn’t know the difference. Anyone experienced this before and have a best guess of how they would handle it?

Doubtful they will run tracks if they haven't been doing it throughout the tour. That's not something you simply throw together at the last minute. If he tried in Houston to actually sing, that means they probably don't have "lead" tracks ready to go.

this will likely be a ridiculous comment in this day and age but if he can’t sing they should postpone the show. are they a band or a broadway show?

Sounds like the ideal Imagine Dragons show

Worst performance I’ve ever seen. Saw them in The Woodlands a few years back and we left long before it was over.

I hope it goes better for you and your daughter.

Hope you and your daughter enjoy the show. I still think they're the worst band in the world right now though.

They’re the worst popular band of the decade. Putrid ‘music’

Hardly sang at all is likely a bit of an exaggeration from whoever told you that.... sang a bit less when he could get away with it is more likely

Absolutely not an exaggeration. He threw in the towel after the first song. Just let the crowdand his band sing. As bad a concert experience as I've ever seen, and pretty pissed it was my kids first concert.

Wife works for the Pavillion. Luckily she was in Nashville and didn't have to deal with it that night (her job isn't to directly deal with these shows anyway), but apparently they ended the show about an hour early. They have received quite a few "it was my kid's first concert and it was ruined" complaints. I did hear it's apparently a very kid friendly show and sucks that it happened to that many kids.

Also annoying as my wife and her co-workers will apparently have to deal with calls all week when they have absolutely nothing to do with it. Live Nation sells the tickets and the band itself is the one that decided to go on and half-arse it. Granted if they would have cancelled, an equal amount or more would have complained. It's a lose-lose.

At least all the people there didn't have to listen to a whole 'nother hour of imagine dragons.

No worries. It won't be me calling her. The chance for any refund or rain check was nil when the band committed to "giving it a shot". The band needs to learn from the experience. It's disappointing to have an impromptu cancellation, but (IMO) it would have been the more professional and appropriate response.

And it may not have been quite so bad if the lead singer didn't whine all damn night. About his voice, about how he's "bad at love", about how we all should seek therapy. Between every song it was the dame diatribe, and my wife lost patience about an hour in. I really don't think the kids cared so much, but we (mom and dad) know what a concert experience is supposed to be and are just dissapointed we couldn't provide that to our kids after a 4 month wait.

They tried to cover The Police's Every Step You Take, bad voice and all. I think Sting would have killed himself if he was there.

Anyone know how the NOLA concert went?

Regarding the Houston show, he was definitely struggling with his voice and apologized several times. It was a shorter type show but he was singing every song and didn't sound that bad.

I only know a few of the Imagine Dragons songs but they are very popular with elementary and middle school kids. My 4th grader and all of his friends had a great time despite the show not being 'perfect'.

The lead singer told a lot of stories about being in that awkward stage of middle school. I thought he did a great job of communicating to the younger fans and seems like a decent guy.

I didn't even realize that there were that many angry people until reading this thread. Sorry you had a bad experience. The weather was great on the lawn (we were nervous about rain) and the kids got to hear all of their favorite songs.

I'm glad that my kid and his friends were able to have such a great time. It was the 1st concert for most of them so perhaps they didn't have any expectations like your krewe.

I didn't realize this until my wife informed me about it after they announced they'd play the Pavillion. It really does suck if it was bad for some kids. We get to go to a lot of shows and my favorite part is bringing my son. He loves watching them. Last night he put on a concert for me and my wife with his bed as the stage mimicking all the people he's seen .

I jokingly hate on them, but good for them actually taking that on and inviting it to their shows. I don't think they did anything wrong going on with the show. Like I said, people will complain no matter what and their really wasn't anything they can do.

They've had to deal with cancellations before too and the same thing happens as far as public response. The best are the people who don't get the memo and still show up . Think that happened when Bob Seager postponed last year . Talked about some pissed people.

Wife and I went. I’m not a real fan of theirs but she is. I thought it was a fun show. It was a little on the short side, but I guess that’s understandable given his issues. When I say short, maybe just a couple of songs short.

Little Alum loves them. If you don't mind me asking weren't tickets $140-150 a piece. That's the price we saw for lawn! $450 too see that crap? Nope.

I got them back in March when they first went on sale. $304.47 for 4 lawn tickets. My son wanted to go to the Toyota Center show, but all the remaining seats were damn near behind the stage. Then tickets for this show came out and it was a great opportunity for his B-day present. So he got these tickets in March, waited until August, and ended up getting a show where the singer couldn't sing.

He's 7, and really didn't care. He had fun. And I should remember that while I'm here bitching. But it was my 10 year old daughters first concert too, and she definitely noticed. She felt really bad for the guy.

I was at the New Orleans show with my 10yr old daughter. We both enjoyed it. His voice was back. He was all over the stage and walked through the crowd during a song on the 100 level.

Don't know anything, but keep your ticket stubs, especially if you paid cash or didn't get thru Ticketmaster or the pavillion. Theres always the possibility of a reschedule and if they don't have credit card info showing you bought the ticket, you can possibly use the stub. Third party purchases like a stub hub aren't tracked and they don't know you bought a ticket. Just an FYI that it has happened in the past and would suck if you tossed tickets and have no way of proving you deserve to be at the reschedule if it ever does happen. Not saying it will happen.
