I have the audio technica LP60 and I love it, so go frick yourself.
While no one likes to hear any negatives of something they have invested in, there is a turntable quality threshold where the attributes you would gain by playing the analog, vinyl version of an album are never achieved due to the level of playback system. The AT LP-60 unfortunately falls into this category.
If you love it, why do you care what others think?...enjoy it and keep playing records on it.
My usual go-to for starter recommendations are the Pro-Ject Debut Carbon, and the U-Turn Orbit...there are a few others, but you are looking for a table with a little bit of mass to it.

Thanks
I’ve been doing a ton of research so this helps.

I used to love my Dual turntable and AR speakers( (air suspensions that can take and thrive with a lot of power).

All you cats kill me. I am older guy. When CDs came on the scene I boxed and stored all my vinyl, including all my half masters, my turntables, Yamaha amp, tuner, Nak cassette deck and a pair of Polk 7s. Over the years I upgraded, but I miss my original stereo set up. I’m a couple of months away from retirement, and I offered all of my vintage stuff to my college senior, step-son. He has no idea of what to do with it.
When we were kids, the audiophile rage was to buy half masters, listen once and record a tape on a 3 head high end cassette deck. The half masters were then stored. We were serious about music. We didn’t have the distractions of the younger generations. We argued over which stylus was the best, direct or belt drive, etc. It was a simpler life.
It’s really cool to see the younger set revisit audio from the 60s and up through the early to mid 80s. CDs are too perfect. Downloaded music is sterile and soulless. Headphones can’t convey the audio sensory of quality three way speakers. I think I’m going to renege on my offer.
OP, for vintage see if you can find an old Technics or Yamaha turntable. If you want spend a little more money Denon and B&O both made excellent turntables.

I think one of the biggest things about collecting vinyl is space... since I moved up to Chicago, I have limited space... so, at this point I am basically down to buying essentials...

Thanks to everyone for all the advice in here. It helped a ton. I took a somewhat cheap approach while trying to get stuff that will last for a long time.
I got:
U-Turn Orbit Plus
Pro-Ject Phono Box E Pre-Amp
Edifier R1280T Bookshelf Powered Speakers
Totaled to about $450.
Let me know if I did anything stupid, or if you have experience with the stuff I bought. Thanks again

Join Discogs so you can keep your vinyl catalogued plus you can figure out which used album you're buying, if it's worth the price you're about to pay. Albums usually have multiple pressings. Some are better than others. A good example is Dark Side of the Moon. YouTube the best pressings of DSOTM and you can get an idea of what I'm talking about

Only recommendation would be to move turntable or the speakers. It's never a good idea having both on the same surface. You want to isolate the turntable from vibrations and feedback from the speakers.

Congrats man and enjoy.
I'm now going down the digital streaming rabbit hole. Looking at this hard.
