I'm sorry to say this but the Long Run was not that good.

I started watching the Eagles documentary thanks to your recommendations on this board. However, I must say that album sucked. Songs sounded dull and drawn out. Its like they were missing the creative spark that drove their earlier music. Thats it, the album sounded like a tired, worn out production. There, I said it. Fire away.

It's not as strong as Hotel California in any sense, but there are some damn good songs on it. My Eagles file wouldn't be complete without them in it.

The title track is slow, it plods, there is no point to the song. Heartache Tonight is ok but not in the realm of their other hits. I can't tell you why reminds one of Fleetwood Mac on the downslope.

The Long Run, I Can't Tell You Why, Heartache Tonight, Those Shoes, In The City and The Sad Cafe are all pretty solid songs. Some of the other stuff is pretty head scratching though.

With exception of Teenage Jail and King of Hollywood the rest of the album is pretty good.

If you watched that documentary you learn two (2) things - (1) Henley/Frey were extremely creative, but total d-bags and (2) the entire band was out of gas by the time they reached the point of recording this album. Given the in fighting, pills, booze, etc. the fact that they recorded anything of substance on this album speaks to their core creative abilities.

Lebowski has nothing to do with it. I don't need a movie to tell me they're bland.

Agreed. I Can't Tell You Why from the 'Eagles Live' album is pretty great.

When it cam out I was so excited. I went to New Generation with my allowance money and bought it. I brought it home and with great expectations I put it on my turntable. I commenced to listen. It slowly dawned on me that the album sucked balls and that I should stack it near the back between my Rod Stewart and Pablo Cruise albums for evermore. I died a little bit that day.

It was impossible for it to live up to expectations after Hotel California. The album definitely has its fair share of fillers and is a bit too variegated in terms of sound and style.
